    This is such dishonest BS... But I guess you gotta admire the consistency from stealerships who are doing all they can to ensure the cash cow of jacking up cost of spare parts and making overpriced repairs for non EV cars is well defended.

    We've seen the truth posted on here many times. That truth is the stealership have a long history of using misinformation to discourage customers from buying EVs and this letter of 4K stealership to the president to slow down EV incentives is based on those lies: Car Dealers Are Stopping Customers From Buying EVs

    What's more, I bet if you went and looked at lobbying efforts and news articles from the 1960's you'd find the exact same kind of BS for the effort to pass a law that required all cars sold to have seatbelts. The auto industry successfully fought that common sense feature off for more than 10 years before it became law in 1968.

    A TSLA stock owner, I'm OK with this . . . not because I have any love for Southeast Toyota or any local dealers. Just end dealer monopoly laws and Father Time solves the problem. For good measure, add an annual, Federal Tax credit proportional to the State 'hippy tax' tag and tax fees. Let us write off on our Federal return 2x State fees.

    Meh, the glory days for TSLA are over. You should have sold it when it peaked. The company has matured and will likely decline with increasing fierce competition. You are probably better off with an index fund now in terms of performance.

    I'd have to say they have a point, at least from my perspective.
    • The cheapest used EV's out there are at the limits of my financial possibilities. And I'm concerned that those couple of options are going to be impractical.
    • I rent and have a 120V outlet for charging, and no quick charging in town. And getting an EVSE installed or moving into a place that has one looks like it's going to be a nightmare to pull off.
    • I did own an EV once and saw the range cut in less than half with just cold weather, even with a heat pump heater. That didn't even include trudging through snow or slush or sitting in stopped traffic with the heater on waiting to move.
    I still want an EV though.

    if domestic dealers and mfgs don’t want bevs, Tesla and many Asian mfgs will eventually dominate auto sales.
    Domestic dealers and manufacturers are short sighted, and are limited to short term thinking, blinded by profits, stock price pressures and quarterly demands

    Likely decline. LOL. If we had sold our Tesla stock on every dip that you like to shout from the rooftops ......

    we wouldn't be sitting at over 400% over the past 4 years. But 'predict' against the company all you like. It's as dishonest as your car stealership buddies.
    The reason GM Ford Toyota VW Nissan is languishing with EV product on their Lots is because their product costs more - & offers way less charging infrastructure. Their board members don't want to invest the billions that Tesla did while they were burning through cash over the past decade.

    There are no guarantees in life but I'm happy to keep my chips on the table. If I do diversify, it will be into funds with heavy TSLA like Barrons and Ark. I especially like Barrons because of their SpaceX position. As for the dealers:

    All but 2 Toyota dealers here in Minnesota are supporting BEV. Oddly, one on the list had several shipped over from the East Coast prior to Midwest availability. I wonder if they get ahead of themselves, not aware of how much the plug-in market still needed to established. With the "all in" nonsense from other automakers, I was pleased Toyota recognized the level of pushback that would follow.

    It was always absurd to think with such many cards stacked against widespread rapid acceptance, the auto industry thought there wouldn't be resistance. After all, their silent passive-aggressive stance up to the point for any type of change should have made that obvious. It's a difficult market just maintaining regular sales. Introducing such a paradigm-shift wouldn't be realistic until infrastructure buildup became apparent.

    Seeing DC fast-chargers appear as a result of NEVI funding is still 2 years away. Here in Minnesota, contracts will being awarded soon. That means a year of redtape & installs for the first signs of real change to emerge, especially since private efforts have similarly lagged schedules. That means it won't even be until 2025 before mainstream consumers start to take education about the upcoming change seriously.

    Why would a dealer invest when they have nothing to leverage yet? It's not like they can do any type of practical research of their own on what the ownership experience will be for customers in their area. I certainly wouldn't want to take on that much risk without any real-world background... which is why putting pressure on the Biden administration is happening. EVs are finally getting brought up as a topic with a lot of weight regarding election concerns. Greater government support is clearly wanted.

    From a state perspective, Minnesota still doesn't allow any type of commercial presence on highway restareas. The result has been a struggle to get businesses along the highway to step up. That's a slow process and some locations simply don't have the physical space for chargers. NEVI funding requires close proximity to high-demand electricity supply too.

    Surprise surprise, that dealers don't want to give up ½ of their profit .... namely all the profit that comes in from the service centers - as the internal combustion mode of transportation brings in a ton of dough. I'd be signing up on that letter as well.

    along the lines of @PriusCamper 's post above, there is also the service side of EV s that in my opinion frustrates dealers, if not completely scares their bottom line. Thinking about how much it costs to employ competent mechanics for old tech, and how much it's gonna cost them to employee even decent mechanics for the tech that's already here and the new stuff on the way. we're seeing with each new Gen hitting your favorite dealer lots.
    Even the last 20 years of mostly new hybrid tech, if ever talking to a mechanic that worked on one or two, I at least, always heard how much the dealers equipment cost just to work on them.
    Now, with space shuttle techniques being developed and put on the roads, it's getting harder and harder for almost everyone ( manufactures, dealers and even owners ) to keep up with the pace of innovation.
    ( cybertrucks hardened stainless steel body exoskeleton tech), not to mention some of the other things in that truck that are gonna cost big if they don't work well for a long time, or get broken while being serviced. Much less understood very well by those of us that are not astronauts yet.

    I don't know what dealerships look like in other locations around our country, but here mostly all of them are already huge multi city mega dealers, and smaller dealerships are being acquired by bigger dealers hand over fist.

    it's funny that we hear about loss of maintenance as one reason dealers don't like bevs, and then we hear about how much more repair bevs require over gassers
