False conclusions by you over and over as usual.

I don't program my newsfeed. It is called AI.

Read the scientific article that even @bwilson4web praised before you point out the stats. That article is probably what lead NHTSA to take action.

Ok. I was assuming that Apple Car Play was Apple Music in a car. I can't even get my phone to connect to my radio via Bluetooth, and it's not an iPhone either. I guess I could watch YouTube videos to see what it's actually about.

I like music from different parts of the world too. I even have shortwave radio installed in my car that I can listen to stations from far away. But I do like listening to the local news and hearing about local deals and events.

Ah, gotcha. There are probably websites that could explain it all better, but in a nutshell CarPlay is a way for an Apple iPhone to "project" itself onto a display on the dashboard of the car.

It's got an interface that is very simplified and chunky compared to the phone itself, to give drivers a chance at not being too distracted. Of note, only a very few phone apps are allowed to use it- because they must also have a simplified version of themselves to project into the car.

Primarily, I use this for navigation. Works with Apple maps, Google maps and Waze apps. I love this because I can store all my favorite points of interest and user preferences in my phone, and they work the same no matter which (CarPlay-enabled) car I am in.

This is a big deal for my travel business: I can fly to an unfamiliar city, rent a car, plug in the phone and within seconds I'm seeing a familiar interface that already has all my waypoints marked. Sometimes I'll be bored on the plane, pre-loading destinations into the map app so it's super easy to recall the hotel & jobsite addresses once I make it to the car. (Then I'm freed up to struggle to find the defroster, trunk release etc etc)

Audio entertainment is also supported within CarPlay, and I'm sure it works with Apple's streaming music service, but apart from that one free streamer app I have not done a deep dive.

I'm glad that the tech is getting better. The last time I preprogrammed destinations into the GPS map on the Avalon was when it stopped working all together. This was the second time it had stopped working, once it was repared at the dealer. I've owned 3 cars with touch screens and all three have stopped working in one way or another, so that kind of sours my opinion about touchscreens in cars.

I've decided I'm just going to get the cheapest, practical used car the next time I need a car (if I ever do). Whether it has Apple Car Play or Android Auto or a touchscreen or anything else of that nature will be by pure coincidence. The same with whether it's an EV or not. Let them come down in prices on their own, then I'll consider them. Cars and phones are too expensive for me to waste more money on them just to supposedly "enhance the experience" beyond the basic function of the tool.

Yeah, I hear you there. I recently "upgraded" into a 2-year old iPhone. I tend to keep them until they are complete toast.

Our Prius did not come with CarPlay. Wife and I knew we wanted that, so we wound up buying one trim cheaper (2 instead of 3) and then spending some of the difference on an aftermarket head unit that could do CarPlay. I plopped in a nice Sony and it's worked perfectly for 5+ years now. (Thanks Crutchfield!)

If we weren't using it for navigation, we probably wouldn't have bothered.

It’s Christmas, and it made me think of a parable. A widow woman who gives a mite out of her necessities gives more than the rich man out of his excess.
I guess you were talking about the divorce though. I’m sure the power of lawyers had something to do with it and exactly who started Amazon. Take the billions and go and start a new life, or be in court ten years.

While the parable raises a great point, it doesn’t mean we should dismiss, out of hand, the generosity of people that are rich.

    True ~
Then again there were over 2 dozen family members who dragged the J Paul Getty (supposedly Ironclad) trust through the courts for years. Stinking greed.
Speaking of fun stories though - a riddle .....
Who is more content with what he has - the man with 12 billion dollars ... or the man with 12 children.
Why - it's the man with 12 children of course - because unlike the man with 12 billion - he doesn't want anymore.

I've often thought about the pros and cons of unequalty. One person in one part of the world works all day and gives it his best and only makes $1. That's below the world average of $2, but still is not uncommon. Then another person in another part of the world works the same amount of hours and just as hard, yet makes $10, ten times that of the first. And another in another part of the world makes $100, and another $1,000 in that same time period and same amount of effort.

Is this a problem? Is it unfair? If so, who's to blame? Is making more than everyone else a blessing or is it robbery? Or is it something in between?

On the other hand, if we didn't have the rich, if everyone made the exact same, then there likely wouldn't be any of the fancy tech things we have today, like smartphones and cars. It takes a lot of overhead, and, therefore, it takes a very rich person or entity in order to get production to start. Once production starts we get the effect of mass-production and end up with several affordable products that otherwise would be impossibly expensive for just an individual to design and build.

On the other hand, has tech really made our lives better? I say this thinking about the time off from work, spending it with family... with everyone sitting around the livingroom staring at their phones. Ah! The memories! Remember all those times we all sat around the livingroom staring at our phones? I also need excersize, am overweight, have high cholesterol, yet I drive to my job that is literally only 10 minutes away on bicycle or 20 minutes away walking. What have we come to as a society?!

Sometimes I feel like throwing away all my tech including our car and going back to the basics. Speaking of which, I got fed up with my smartphone and have recently gone back to a basic flip phone again. Now if I could only stop replying so much on social media and forums on the ol' desktop.

"...exactly who started Amazon"? Its founding, local to me, as been well covered in local news. And this is a community property state, not a separate property state, with numerous examples of founders of large companies getting divorced. She had to have been generous about the split. There just isn't that much wiggle room for a protracted court battle.

The Getty Trust inheritance example is just not analogous to a community property state divorce.

Now, if one of them had founded Amazon first, and they married later and brought along their previous separate properties, then all bets are off.

If it was already settled about the founding, but that’s where the lawyers come in to spin it. Who gives up first, gets less.
I guess Jesus’s parable was about who gives more when it affects their sustenance, necessities, and it’s a deep point. Especially over 2000 years ago to say these ideas.

So tech has saved some lives, which is a win, and has prematurely ended others, which is a loss. Others it has zombified, which I'm not sure if that's a win or a loss.

I just wish people would stop telling me to buy an iPhone and a new car.

Tech is a tool. One of the first was a sickle, used both to Harvest Grain or your neighbor's head. It turns on what the tool is used for.

I mean, I wasn't there but I'd bet anything that Og and Nhrr were commiserating about new tech like "throwing a rock" back in their day.
