Alabama and Georgia are putting on a show right now. The winner will be involved in high-level bowling on 2024 Jan 1 I reckon. Loser may at Cheez-it level then.

Pends on how the semi-Noles do against the Cards, some say.
The Wolvs are howling at the door, and 'some people say' that another 'lucky-13' team gets a shot after playing approximately 1 ranked team this year.
Some horny Texacans are also being spoken about....

I misspoke earlier in the thread.
I did watch part of the Pac-12 playoff.
I faded out in the 3rd quarter....

Michigan Wolverines are now putting Iowa Spartans into (as a sci-fi movie would say) death process. For folks who suppose only Southeastern teams can do, this will mean little. But it puts UM closer to Big Bowls, where they might cause some surprises.

==There are 43 Bowl games starting Dec 16 by my count. It is a testament to advertisers and game viewers that so many can be supported. After all conflicts, on 2024 Jan 8 there will be one supreme team, and <10 in trail whose 'almost as good as' may differ little from how they are now seen. But players and staff need to do it a few more times.

Looks like the not-fully-Noles are going to prevail.

It was a much better played game with fewer amusing "Opps, wish I hadn't done that." More semi-pro than the more entertaining, true game, with Auburn. Guess the coaches must have had a 'Come to Jesus' meeting with the team after Auburn.

I kinda like the 'Bama quarterback. Bright guy even off the field.

    Statistics.....
    NOW you know.

I'm a Bama fan and as far as I'm concerned the semi-Noles got ROBBED.
    Probably the dawgs too.

Washington probably deserves their place on the list, even though they had a schedule only pitted them against one real team.
    Same with Michigan.
I watched the Huskies play the ducks before I fell asleep during the game and they were pretty impressive, but then it's easy to stay healthy through a 14 week haul when your schedule allows for you to put your cheerleaders on the field and win.
It would be a fitting end to the PAC-12 if they took a title or at least gave Bama one heck of a game - and I'm going to be rooting for the dogs in Nawluns - if only because I hope they upset what I consider to be a better team and since I'll be rooting for the pachyderms in Caly.

He's kinda got a point, but their offense was de-fanged when Travis started using crutches and Rodemaker got his head dinged against their rivals in the regular season finale.
Even with Rodemaker returning healthy in 4 weeks, it would probably have just given Michigan a bye week in the playoffs.
This will all sort itself out when they expand the playoffs....and they're GOING to expand them.

    Probably more than once.

As there are only two semi-final games, #5 and #6 are always going to feel that way. This year they will meet in Capital ONE Orange Bowl.

There are eight teams ranked in top 25 not yet assigned to bowls, and 20 bowls teams still TBD. They should all be accommodated, and further down the list as well.

They should flush the bowls and expand the playoff to eight teams.
They could keep the rivalry weeks (the SEC already played their Iron Bowl) and truncate the season by one week to accommodate the 'elite 8' games.

That will still leave #9 and #10 grumbling about being cheated (as will the 65th best basketball team later this year) BUT it will attenuate the ridiculousness of the finger-in-the-wind methodology we have now.

As we've already seen a number of times this season, the ranking methodology is deeply flawed.
Nothing is going to fix that, and a 'February Madness' would be a further insult to the kids who are already struggling under the fiction that they're full time students AND full time employees for their respective colleges AND full time employees for the NFL minor league.

Isn't it the 68 top teams that get in?

I was thinking 64 teams began the single elimination tournament now given that famous, probably trademarked name but you are correct, sir.
I forgot about the First Four play-in round.

Although I was, to my everlasting shame, born on the wrong side of the Mason-Dixon Line, my interest in proper roundball had been attenuated by decades of life in the Deep South. I even conversed with a neighbor at length yesterday about the recent loss of our local high school football team's playoff game, and am contemplating attending some of next year's season's games, provided that they do not conflict with archery, softball, or other grandkid school athletics.

    Good catch.

On the way to the grocery store today I was listening to a national sports radio show and they were discussing which College Football Bowl Games they were most interested in watching - the consensus from them was
    1. Michigan vs Alabama
    2. Georgia vs Florida State
3.Washington vs Texas ( they stated this was a distant 3rd place)
    4. The National Championship game- winner of Michigan vs Alabama vs winner of Washington vs Texas (not much interest in this game among the radio show host)

I'm watching Boca Raton Bowl because of earlier connection with Syracuse. They were bet to win, but South Florida Bulls are having their way.

There are too many Bowls - may we agree on that? Only things that make them worth noticing are when favored team flames out, or when both teams put up a real tussle.

Dec 23 offers 7 footbowls before Christmas break. Dense action resumes on Dec 26. Wishing well for all readers' favorite teams.

But it would be wrong to not mention #5 ranked Florida, who are currently bet to lose to #6 ranked Georgia Dec 30. If that obtains, we'd expect all current noise/investigations/lawsuits about Florida denied the big dance to quietly disappear.

    ==
PS: I hope/expect Syracuse to boot a 3 so as to avoid going ZERO against these ... Floridians.

Underdogs South Florida beat favored Syracuse 45-0. A later footbowl might have a more definitive squashing, or this one might stand.

    It's hard being Orange :(
