What’s the % of electric cars? Of course most of them are very new. So now it’s off the miles thing.
You also have to be careful of the source of information.
So that is 112,000 cars out of 280,000,000 that burned. According to the source. A lot were accidents I bet, but maybe that counts.

That involves a perfect memory. I don’t remember one. I did have a carburetor burning once I think. There are a lot of old cars out there I wouldn’t be surprised if they leak and burn a lot. Or a newer car that was worked on badly. I also remember a gas line leaking all over the engine due to me not doing it right, but nothing burned. I am remembering a burned out bus. They were experimenting with natural gas buses or something. Never caught on.

No my friend, once again you are mixing your small amount of oranges with your apples. The 0.04% of total vehicles (mentioned at post 41) lincludes EVS ..... weather trucks - cars - EV's & ICE. Yes of course that percentage of fires would be higher - if electric cars were excluded.

considering gen 1 prime had a $10,000. replacement battery, that doesn't seem unreasonable

 

Driving about 5K kms yearly, having a "lowly" 2010 Prius hybrid consuming 5 liters per 100 km, that's around 250 liters of gas per year. Times $1.65 CDN per liter (current price here), a bit over $400 a year. Replacement battery, if ever needed, is about $2500~3000 CDN. Just turned 100K, done all the stuff I've read about here, think I'll sit tight. Maybe forever, lol.

$12,000 is about my budget for a whole car. If I buy a car I'm not buying one that might need a $12,000 part.

Junkyard parts don't work when it's a part that tends to get damaged because everyone who damages that part will want one. Plus people use used batteries for many more projects other than just replacing a damaged battery which also increases the used battery price.

Junkyards are good for parts for old cars that were very popular and people decided they wanted something more shiny to drive.

 

The 19 Niro doesn’t even have the extra shield from pictures I’ve seen. Inside the case the battery appears to sit well above the base of the case in this picture. I am guessing Kyle could drive around for days and the car has no warnings, is because nothing is wrong with it. If the coolant was ruptured, in four days there ought to be some signs. Sounds like they want to blame Kyle?

You'd be surprised how much dealers, shops and insurance companies used the yards to get newer cars going.

 

I imagine insurers are going to have another look at all of this for their ev owning clients? That’s a lot of money to pay out, and the car is like new except for hitting some road debris?

 

Did a 4,000+ mile Cannonball Run (pacific N/W to Nashville) & by the end, the windshield was badly sandblasted. Picked one up for ⅓ the cost at a junkyard.

And probably why the two EV's I've recently got quotes for insurance were higher, one considerably higher, than any insurance I've every had on a car.
