    Late Friday evening, Chevrolet issued a statement confirming a stop-sale order for the new Blazer EV electric SUV.

    "We are aware that a limited number of Blazer EV owners have experienced some software quality issues," Chevrolet said. "To ensure our customers have a great experience with their vehicle, we are temporarily pausing sales of Blazer EVs. Our team is working quickly to roll out a fix, and owners will be contacted with further information on how to schedule their update. We apologize for the inconvenience."

    It's hardly a coincidence that this news comes right on the heels of our story detailing the 23, count 'em, 23 issues we're having with the long-term tester we purchased two months ago. A laundry list of software issues has rendered our Blazer EV unusable, and the car is still sitting in a Chevy dealer's service center with no return date in sight.

    I am not a fan of GM but I hate to see anyone sink this low.

    That's because old time car companies have never made modern software before, they just make cars and all those boomer auto execs don't want to give up their "leadership role" building "modern" cars.

    Interesting timing. Toyota's system, which has already proven extremely reliable albiet slow to DC charge, will get even better...

    That being said, Tesla is still the only manufacturer committed to ev’s.
    Everyone else is posing, waiting to see which way the political winds are blowing

    Aren't any other manufacturers doing OTA software upgrades - so they don't have to keep dragging their rear's into the service center?
    Newest generations of Tesla's are now getting starlink connectivity and 5G is on the immediate Horizon as well as faster & faster screen processing
    Tesla Model 3s coming out of Fremont with MCU 3 and high-end GPU.

    Let’s face it, none of the other manufacturers are software experts like Tesla.
    They’re all wannabes, but they can’t do it.
    And it just burns their rear ends to have to sub it out to experts, no matter how many customer complaints they get, or how many recalls they have to pay for

    Fanboy fanfare. Same old vague superiority claims we've had in the software industry for decades. When it comes down to specifics, much of the reasoning falls apart.

    Not for me. Most people buy them for local commuting.
    You could have two models I suppose, unless the cost is similar, then you might as well add it to all of them

    John has already admitted it's not competitive. Hopefully the updates he doesn't provide information on above will make it competitive with a... Leaf? Maybe, dare to dream, a bolt?

    I don't see this as an EV problem.

    But one question: why do they think they have to put so much software in EV's??? EV's are supposedly much more simple than ICEV's. It seems by "software" most refer to the user interface. Why do they have to make it so complicated? I miss the simplicity of cars from the 90's and earlier.

    No GM fan here either but I still think they deserve a chance.

    When they announced that ultium cars would have their own in-house infotainment tech this became a very predictable result. We then knew that these first ultiums would be on an expedited showroom-to-crusher trajectory.

    I think it is worth giving them a couple of years to see if they can course-correct.

    I haven't heard electric cars describes as simple. We have a PHEV - it is economical, fun and sensible but simple is certainly not a term I would use. They have complicated electronic components and wiring - their motors, electronic controls, charging, battery management modules, electronic regeneration controls, regenerative braking are anything but simple.

    The interface for the driver where you just hop in press a button and drive while everything takes care of itself appears simple but is actually quite complicated to give this interface the appearance of simplicity to the driver. Electric cars are the same ball of wax.

    The safe storage of the electric power, its controlled managed distribution and its safe recharging at a reasonable rate is anything but simple!

    If your comment is on safety items - they have been proven to help save lives.

    If your comment is on accessories - your beef is with consumers who demand more and more of these on their automobiles - not the manufacturer.

    I enjoy EV's and PHEV's and appreciate them but would never use the word simple to describe them.

    I disagree. Nothing in the charging, battery management or powering to or regenerating from the motor(s) requires much, if any software. Threshold limits, including those that are pulsewidth modulated, could be regulated with simple analog circuits with similar results.

    Sure, using software to define the way those thesholds are kept in check can make it easier to make adjustments, a lot like in an ICE, but that in no way makes an EV any more complicated than an ICEV in terms of software.

    An modern vehicle's ICE is way more complicated than an EV power train in terms of needed computation. It's not just volts, amps and temps, it's also trying to formulate AFR's, valve timings, spark timings, EGR levels, etc. based off of trying to figure out the density of the air, the left over fuel content in the exhaust with only a series of oxygen sensors (not fuel in exhaust sensors), the tolerance of each combustion event to knock, etc.
