2007 Prius Best Tire Available at Costco 2024

    Tire review. I Currently I have a Bridgestone Ecopia Plus 195 65R15 70k mile warranty since 2018. I have put 58,000 miles on it. Maybe I can sill run another 10-15k but somewhere along the way I should plan on getting ready for another set sooner. I also have 1 extra (same tire as spare in like new condition). I love this tire and its been a great service. I went to Costco and inquire about the Bridgetone tires, that's when I heard the news they'll be discontinuing particular model. I just don't know when.

    So Costco was recommending me the Michelin X Tour A/S T+H - 195/65R15 91H 80k warranty. I have no experience with Michelin especially this model. I was wondering maybe anyone can share their "Long Experience" driving them so I can have an idea. I have attached a picture to compare the tires I'm looking at

    BTW: My car is a 2007 package 6 non-touring. (lets not get into the model details just trust me there is a NW model like this and its very rare). Anyways I was using a 1 size over which is a "195"-65-15 instead of the original "185". Just like what I mentioned earlier, I have put in over 50,000+ miles and this is exactly the same 1 size over tire that I want for my car. Anyways. I drive highway and side street 50/50.     That means you'll be able to buy close out ecopia for the next two years. And then the tire that supersedes it will be available en masse. So I'm not sure what the worry is. Most any midline tire ought to cover a generation 2 Prius pretty good fashion I run very cheap tires purposely I like them to always look very black and dark black not gray cracked and whatever . I haven't had any of those high mileage tires like the 90 and 100,000 mi michelins I make 60 on those and by the time I get to 60 they look like pure h a l e I'd rather run cheap tires and when I pull them off they're still nice and black and all of that I could care less about water siping and road handling of any kind of superiority I'm driving an effing Prius come on gang road noise might be a thing to some people. But spending $100 a tire or I spend 52 yeah I'll take the 52 all day The difference in the 52 and the $140 or whatever is not enough to really discuss except that you possibly could keep him on the car until they turned gray and cracked and sight force you to change them. But that hasn't been my experience with the high mileage tires they don't make warranty and that's that and what you get discounted by the time you're at the 68,000 mi You're not getting anything so it's like a battery in the 6th year.

    I’m using General Tire RT45 tires on my Prius, and they seem to work well.

    The X-Tours are rebadged Defenders, good all-round (pun) tire, and about $10 cheaper than the Defender usually. Good tread life, quality tire, might drop your mpg a little though. The stock size for second gen is 185/65R15 is it not? 195 has a slightly larger OD. I'd suspect Costco will refuse to put on anything but the stock size.

    Costco tip: if you're not a fan of green valve caps, save your old ones before you go in.

    Thank you for the info. That's exactly what I need to know. I'll go with the Michelin. I want to get the green caps for they already took that off here. I was bummed out.
    If anyone is up to changing their tires on gen 2, do it with the correct tires, non-winter driving and regular highway and street cruising with confidence. Like what I mentioned on my last Bridgetone tires with costco, I'm close to 60,00 miles now and still great. I had a bog fight with them installing those tire . But it happen and it was nothing but joy. Took me to all my meetings and job sites with confidence. A more better ride for my taste. I will never ever put a 185 ever again.

    Thanks for the follow-up. I got the Michelin X-Tour over 5 months now. I am very happy. It feels like its a slightly bit more smoother to drive than my old Bridgetone Ecopia Plus which I have grown to love. I got 66k miles on that old set. If I pushed it, I could have probably another 12k more. But that's not what I want to do because I need a reliable car for the job. This new Michelin feels like its gonna give me the same or a lot more.

    PS. I just want to follow-up that my car is originally 185-65-15 and been using a 195 since. I will never go back to 185.

    I just lifted one Prius I can probably run a 215/65/15 if I want I'm not sure if I'll do that or not but I run cheap tires when they turn gray the tread should be worn out in time for a new black set of rubber. I like the tires made in Poland they seem to do good work there I don't need tires to last $100,000 mi that doesn't happen when you take them off of the road a bit I don't mean as in rock crawling and all that I just mean not on pavement. I've had very good luck with the cheap tires I have never gotten a set of Michelin whatever they are to go anywhere near the mileage they're supposed to i e $100,000 mi Michelin defender blah blah blah I might get $60,000 and that's a big might and when the tires come off the once black rubber is pretty much white I don't like that.
