so I lock the car with the fob and a second or so later I hear several short beeps. What night this be? All the doors are closed, trunk isn't open either. Thank you!

It could be trying to warn you that you left something in the back seat.

Hey there, I've always thought that was just to confirm that you've locked the door. Whenever I lock the door, whether is with the smart key or door button, it has always rang 4 times afterwards. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Cheers!

Mine beeped like that once a couple months ago. I recall that I had not turned the car off before exiting.

Perhaps that was a different tone than the one I'm talking about. Our cars do beep if you leave your vehicle with your key without turning off your car.

It was probably just the "the doors are locked" alert if nothing else can be found for it. Adjusting the number of beeps or turn it off in the customization menus could be an possible.

It's one beep for lock, two beeps for unlock. Anything else is some sort of alert.

    Most common alerts:
    - 5 second continuous beep when door lock is attempted: one of the doors is still open (can be disabled)
    - several beeps(about 6 sec worth) plus hazard flashes when door is locked: rear seat reminder* (can be disabled)
    - continuous(I think) beep upon locking using exterior door handle: key still in vehicle; this can be cellphone related**

*Rear seat reminder is triggered upon locking when:
    1. The car was started within approximately 10 minutes after opening and closing a rear door.
    2. A rear door was opened and closed after the car was started.

Rear seat reminder is generally not triggered if the rear door was closed within 5 sec of its opening.

**When logged into the Toyota App, the phone effectively becomes a key fob. If you have the key fob in your pocket, but the phone is left in the car, you'll get the "key inside" alert. Also, the location detection for phones isn't as accurate as it is with fobs. You can get the "key inside" alert even with the phone in your pocket. If this repeatedly happens and becomes a nuisance, there is a digital key sensitivity setting in the app. (The variable sensitivity is there because of differences in transmitting power between cellphone models, the variability of where cellphones are placed(from in an open hand to buried deep in a big purse or backpack), and the near-infinite variety of phone cases/shells.)
