Snow Chains

For reference, 3rd gen Prius Gross Vehicle weight is just under 4000 lb.

 

To illustrate, in the two hours since I first pictured it, Snoqualmie has improved enough in one direction to drop not just the chain requirement, but also the traction tire requirement, so it is just an advisory now. The difference in directions is likely related to different traffic volumes chewing up and melting the accumulated snow and ice. Sunday afternoon going-home traffic is likely to similarly melt down the other direction within a few hours.

P.S. Sometime less than two hours after posting this reply, the other direction's chain requirement was also dropped, also to just Traction Tires Advised.

 

Totally false. There Prius XLE AWD-e is marketed as an AWD vehicle up to 43 mph. All 4 wheels are powered up to that speed and uses the same traction control algorithms for torque redirection on slipping wheels in the back as in the front...just like any other AWD vehicle.

I agree it's not 4WD which is for sure better in the snow.

 

We're getting hammered right now w/ high winds - lots of snow (w/ drifts) & sub zero temps ..... Seeing your screenshot plus 30°f temperature almost sounds tropical.

would love to not be out driving - but since it took ½ a year for wife's md appointment ..... rescheduling is not in the cards

What? 14 months ago? I clicked that screenshot just a few minutes before posting it. That's why the weather in Kalispell is currently the same.

WSDOT has removed temperature from the Snoqualmie picture, but is showing -12F at Stevens Pass right now.
