all. I’ve been reading a lot on this forum for this exact problem, went through many suggestions, but still am at a loss. I am turning to all you seasoned owners for some help!

I have a 2012 Toyota Prius. It has ~155,000 miles on it. In March of last year, the driver front wheel’s fender liner tore off while I was driving down the highway. About a week later, the ABS, Brake, and Traction Control light came on. This appears to be a standard problem, usually caused by the Speed Sensor housing. In March, the weather was slightly rainy, but the lights shut off after the ground was dry again. This issue was never seen again until this week. In my area, we received about 15” of snow. I went to drive after the roads had been plowed, and the lights reappeared.

I replaced my speed wheel sensor with abs. I cleared the lights, all was fine until I got about 20 feet away from my driveway. The lights reappeared. Hm. I am stumped, but have three theories.

    1) The female part of the sensor system needs replaced.

    2) The moisture is getting into something due to the weather.

    3) It truly is a brake actuator issue.

I would appreciate any help! Thanks!

Weird that you could read so many posts here and not have seen any that said you need the trouble codes.

You can get them like this: Blink (a/k/a Flash) Codes – How to. | PriusChat

Okay, that makes sense. I was using a code reader, moreso thinking that article was for those without. My fault for jumping to conclusions.

I don’t have a repair manual, wondering if anyone can help?

    ABS: 32
    ((!)): 36
    Traction: 43

If you've got a code reader that works and shows you the codes, you're also allowed to post them that way. :)

Ok, the ((!)) 36 and Traction 43 are covered on that Blink Codes page itself, where it says they both just mean "hey, go look at the code on your ABS light".

So, 32 on the ABS light is code C0205, having to do with a weird signal from the front left wheel speed sensor.

C0205 has seven different "INF" codes that are more specific about how the signal is weird, which can help in making a diagnosis. Regrettably, there's no blinky way to get those INF codes; only a scan tool that's up to the job can do it.

You can look into the various ways of getting repair manual access described here (some may be free, depending on where you are):

Toyota Service Information and Where To Find It | PriusChat

There are ~ a dozen pages of troubleshooting steps there you can follow. You can work through the steps without having a specific INF code if you have to.

Thank you for your help! I ended up taking my Prius to the dealer, where they found the speed sensor I put in was not operational. They also cleaned the receiving part of the sensor and will replace the wheel liner. I could have done all of this myself, but I don’t have a ton of time in the next few weeks.

I will pay them an ungodly amount of money for a repair I could have done for half of their price, but oh well. I just hope the codes clear and I am back in business.
