Never experienced all those alarms and beeps and lights on the dash going off when going through a car wash. There sure are many sensors on the Prius!

You'd think they'd have a car wash mode to turn all that stuff off? That's what Tesla and other automakers have. Maybe see if there's info about that in the owner's manual? Of course most car cleaning experts will tell you a drive thru car wash will cause more damage than it prevents.

Stick to the kind of carwash where the car goes in and stops (and can be shut right off). A big frame with the washing apparatus straddles the car, moves along it's length.

Unless you got little kids... Then you're obligated to do the conveyor belt style car wash.

    Hello, there.

So what happened? You went into one of those automatic car washes and all your Prius sensors went off? Was your car turned off or in Ready mode? No sarcasm here at all…

I ask because I’m due to pick up a 2024 Prius Prime SE next month and I’m trying to learn what I can before…stuff like this happens unexpectedly!

If actually reading your owner's manual was allowed, it'd be easy. But it's not, so... Over at Reddit they have a thread on this and the answer is: "You can navigate the car menu via steering wheel to disable the sensors"

I just don't trust automated car washes. Still use the wand, then if I have time, I spray the ceramic wax and wipe her down. Perfection!

Me neither; it's hose, bucket and sponge in the driveway here. Dry mostly with leaf blower. :)

I'm reading in the manual (EU) that you can deactivate the automatic insertion of P when you turn off the car, leaving it in N, should'nt be the perfect solution?

It's getting hard to find those types of car washes though... People prefer to spend more money and stay inside the car.

I totally understand why folks choose those kind of car washes. It’s convenient.

Before my four-year old was born, I was all about hand washing and hand detailing our two cars. Detailing product delivery from Autogeek was pretty regular at my house. But then other things ran up the priority ladder (i.e., the kiddo) and nowadays, I just take our current car to the automated carwash, and I’m likely to do the same with 2024 Prime SE that I have coming in soon.

My carwash of choice had a 'brushless' option, which I've always chosen. It's a drive in and park type, not a conveyor belt situation. A little hairy when the thing looks like it's going to hit the windshield, but I had been going there for about 4 years prior to Argyros without any issues. It's the better of the options; I can't speak for the chemicals in the products they use, but I think it's much better than those scratchy dirty brushes.

It is the same with my 2021 Prius Prime Limited. It is fun going through an automated car wash!

Agree. We have been using the "touchless" drive in and park car washes for a long time now. Never had an issue.

The attendant tells you to keep the car on and put it in neutral. I obeyed. No sarcasm taken!

What I do is touch the "mute" button on the pop up when something sets off the sensor.
