Door Sill Guards / Rear Bumper Guard - Installation

Hey everyone,

The door sill guards that I ordered from Toyota finally arrived for my week old prime today. Turns out they included installation on the price I paid. The cost of it was something like, 50$ which is money but not *extravagant* amounts. Unlike previous models that had clips and illumination, it looks like these are just 3M glued down.

Should I ask for the installation fee refunded to me and DIY? I can't help but think this would be stupid simple to do and would avoid a lot of hassle. I am a bit of a perfectionist type though and for a new car, I'd had to put them on at a weird misplaced angle etc. I was already fine with the price for the finish/quality/look of factory sill guards without knowing it included installation from the service folks. But the time and hassle of taking the car to the dealer is something I want to avoid.

Is it as simple as just measuring where they start/stop and putting them on? If so do I just ask for some leaflet with instructions to measure out where the sill is applied and use masking tape to mark the positioning?

Am I overthinking this? Its our first ever new car and I feel like I'm overthinking this and letting my baby related sleep deprived brain make me more anxious than I need to be.

Side note: I want a hatch bumper guard but there are no precuts available without a bunch of other PPF sold as expensive kits with reasonable shipping costs to Canada. I may be stuck going Toyota or trying to cut my own from a PPF sheet. Is the dealer bumper guard any good? It seems kind of pricey and the images make it seem like its a very small 2 inch or less sized bit of PPF film. Anyone found a good aftermarket available in canada? Or have a photo of the "bumper applique" as Toyota calls it for the gen 5?

I know I could use a blanket, or get one of those flip up blanket things that velcro to the car fabric as an option too. But full disclosure, I have ADHD, and I have little kids, and I will most certainly forget to grab the blanket or flip something down in a rush in the future. For 100% certain, and I want to avoid deeper scratches unloading the hatch or resting something on the edge of the hatch while wrangling kids.

 

So they are easy, but turns out - they ordered me body side moulding so when I got home and opened the box I was very confused and not happy.

Buying the car: great experience.

Getting door sill protectors.... Apparently door sill means body side moulding... And it was special order on the receipt, in a bit of a rush to get in and out after work before groceries and making dinner... I didn't think to check the text on the box. Lesson learned.

They better take it back

 

Well I definitely asked for door sill. And I definitely discussed it with the guy on the phone. They mixed up something somewhere and I didn't think to triple check at the desk before it was about to close -_-

 

We get front and back here in Canada according to the website and when I spoke to the dealer

 

It was $250 for me I haven't installed them yet been too cold

 

Ah I see. They just use 3M tape. Very simple. Install of $80 is wild. You just need it to be above 10C and the area you're installing it to to be warm for it to stick.

Personally I'm waiting for it to be warmer because I also have some PPF to install for the bumper, door sills (internet says you can stick the metal sills over ppf to avoid grit getting under the plastic), and ceramic coating. I'm gonna spend a Saturday in April doing it all when it warms up.
