Hello all. Over the summer of 2023 I decided that I was going to keep my 10 year old prius and not get involved with high interest rates and inflated car prices. My prius has been paid off for years and thought I would get a warranty for this vehicle. I kept hearing ads on Sirius XM radio for Carshield and OX car care. I decided to go with Carshield and wow what a good decision it was.
So I started having coolant loss back in January and after doing some research I came to the conclusion that the head gasket was the cause..I contacted my Toyota dealer and they took the car in, did the diagnosis and handled the claim with Carshield. The bill came out to almost $4400 and my deductible was $150. They had the car for 8 days and carshield covered a Rav 4 hybrid rental.. All i can say is have all your maintenace records and find a dealer that will go to work for you..They did contact me directly and asked me some basic questions about the car just before the issue happened...I cant say enough good things at the moment about this warranty company...I wonder how the next claim will go...We will see

I dont work for, invest in or have any connection with Carshield...im just your average consumer and thought this may help others..

What level of coverage did you opt for and what was your monthly premium?
What was your mileage at sign up and mileage when you made your claim?

The only coverage I was offered was the Gold coverage. I’ve read people getting it for $85 per month but the best I was able to get was $115

No BS. I’m guessing your a little jaded or had a head gasket failure and had to pay the whole way.
I drive to work this morning with my pockets heavier because the cash didn’t leave.
Everything in life is not BS. Just sayin

Like I say once you figure the cost and so on and so forth it's like any other insurance car shield and ox car Care you need to be careful with these companies because they'll do a little bit of stuff and then start denying claims really quickly it happens these places come and go really fast they go in and out of business very quickly It's a tough nut to crack people being as ignorant as they can be a lot of times when it comes to vehicles and big ticket decisions seemingly make crappy choices on purpose they like the buttons their friend has one that's modded and is really cool so on and so forth rarely is it based on getting back and forth to work and the realness of life it's based on television and what they believe life is about and gets really tricky and then they want somebody else to pay for it for a low monthly fee exactly so you see where this heads to quick the 8th mile. To get a good start some kind of way you have to try and live within your means for a little while see how that's going to go then you can try and venture out into the abyss.

That's right If that's how it worked out then you're good I don't know how long you have to have that mess in force and so on and so forth and how it all works but I guess if you get it at the right time and all of that it could work to your advantage very well and it did and that's all that's important.

What was your mileage at sign up and mileage when you made your claim?

Everyone should be a bit skeptical about this because Toyota would never sell a warranty like this because someone would just go buy this warranty when their head gasket fails. Even though this is a 3rd party, they would have the same thinking.

I'm surprised. I don't know a single car shop or dealer that likes working with Car Shield. On the Better Business website, they've gone from an "F" rating to a C- (I don't know why.) They have 1.34 stars out of 5 rating with 3,428 complaints logged against them in the last 3-years.

    CURRENT ALERTS FOR THIS BUSINESS
    Pattern of Complaint:
BBB advises consumers to use caution if considering doing business with CarShield, a vehicle service contract company. BBB received a pattern of consumer complaints alleging the company:

    • Employed misleading sales and advertising practices, including TV advertisements stating consumers will not be responsible for expensive repairs and can take their vehicle to any repair facility which consumers found was not to be true
    • Failed to cover repairs
    • Failed to adequately explain mileage and time component before coverage begins
    • Did not cancel their policies and provide refunds
    • Delayed taking and processing claims leaving customers without their vehicles
    • Unable to find an authorized repair shop
    • Provided poor customer service
In April and December 2020, BBB contacted CarShield regarding how it planned to address ongoing patterns of complaints. The company stated, “CarShield works hard to provide excellent customer service to all consumers we encounter and to meet the demands and standards set forth by the BBB.”

Instead of giving them $115 a month, I'd just put that in a savings account and use that to fix any car issues that come up....you'd have $2,760 after just 2-years.

I believe there was a 8,500 mile gap between signup and seeing an issue..166K and saw issue at 175K

I would have to go 37 months to have this equal out....I took my chances and did all my research before I took the car in...

Also accoding to my dealer, consumers who bring cars in with aftermarket warranties dont have maintenance records, use the car after the failure happened doing additional damage, abuse, cars modified, have a history or codes in ECM that were never corrected..So that sounds like an issue with the consumer...

I read my contract in full before I signed...I had all my stuff in order...Some people roll the dice and hope for the best...Thats not how i do things..

I can cancel the contract today if I wanted...But it covers powertrain and a/c system, and some others systems....For me the $115 is good insurance on a 80 mile a day commuter car that has no payments..Its already paid me off

There is a 30 day - 500 mile waiting period before the warranty actually starts. So if your car is already dead, this is not for you....

How many years did you pay that before the head gasket incident? If it was, for example 7 years,
    7 yr × 12mo/yr × $115/mo = $9660 .

The insurance company exists because it takes in a lot more than it pays out. Obvious, but other customers money paid the claim. Some pay and get nothing back except peace of mind, some pay the minimum entry fee and get a big claim paid. Socialism? I think so. How else can a person get $4250 and not have paid in that much? I seem to always be in the pay group and tell myself it’s peace of mind. Decades of insurance, no claims I can remember. Older guys sometimes don’t. That should be loaded off topic enough in a couple ways.

All third-party extended auto warranties are always fraud. Clearly you work for them

You've posted a total of eight messages on this forum. All of them are about car shield.
