That’s too sensible. How will congress get paid off?

I'll keep my 2012 level 2 with no connection to the internet as long as possible. I guard my privacy.

Cars, phones, drones and video surveillance are market sectors where snooping has been discussed. Add to that list?

I suppose it should be opposed in all its forms. If it turns out that one country does 100 or even 90% of it, then responses should be very straightforward. However if snooping is done by other countries and entities, responses are complicated.

If snooping is widely done but we pretend it's all from one place, then a different agenda seems to be in play.

Good point. Someone needs to investigate what other countries are hacking to the same extent as china.
    North Korea?

    "It's interesting how "third world nations" manage to offload containers from container ships faster, cheaper, and more safely...}

Fascinating topic raised by @ETC(SS) PriusChat is a wellspring of fascinating topics. So I looked and could only promptly find this:

Container ports: the fastest, the busiest, and the best connected | UNCTAD

halfway down the page is a bubble chart (annual flow sizes) and color coded for turnover time. Underlaying world map is not drawn, but it can be guessed. This (from 2018 a long time ago) does not seem to show great differences among the world's busiest ports. So I wonder if there is a source showing more clearly what was claimed?

Distractions aside, who is offloading container ships better, how, and is there something to be learned from that by other ports? It was your assertion.

Doesn’t sound like too much, an investigation to develop potential regulations, but seems prudent to start on it.

“Under a plan announced Thursday, the Commerce Department is issuing an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking that will launch an investigation into national security risks posed by “connected vehicles” from China and other countries considered hostile to the United States.

Commerce will seek information from the auto industry and the public on the nature of the risks and potential steps to mitigate them, the White House said. Officials will then develop potential regulations to govern the use of technology in vehicles from China and other “countries of concern,’’ including Russia and Iran.

“We’re doing it now, before Chinese manufactured vehicles become widespread in the United States and potentially threaten our privacy and our national security,’’ Raimondo said.”

Regulations are nice, IF they are followed. VW emissions cheat/scandal??? Remind me how many cars and years they were getting away with this, before they were caught? All this while most other diesel engine manufacturers was using DEF to curb their emissions down to required pollution levels.

One of the few non-stupid things that the Biden Administration did was to NOT roll back the ChiComm tariffs, so in addition to meeting US (and Canada) safety standards BYDs not built by the norteamericanos have to navigate a 27% tarrif.

Normally I'm really not into tariffs, so my feelings about the Buildadream company are complicated.
There ARE BYD vehicles being built and sold in America, but only in corrupt near-failing US states that have an overly comfortable relationship with Chinese political donations.
THAT's why I said wake me up WHEN they get here, not IF.
I also said a few posts back that I would welcome ChiComm BEVs if they meet US safety norms (genocide and child labor notwithstanding.)

    Rising tides lift ALL boats.

My Grandfather told me once that if you have a clean conscience, you usually sleep well.
