    I don't think so.

I don't think LSS+ 3.0 became available on the LS before 2024. I am pretty sure that what IIHS tested was LSS+ 2.5. Why wouldn't LSS+ 3.0 have no safeguards like driver monitoring, which is what the IIHS report said?

What is Lexus Safety System+ 3.0?

We know the prime has a camera, and we know that it isn't the same system that didn't completely fail the ratings.

We have no idea how it would rank if applied to the same test.

These were tests of more advanced systems than Toyota has put in any Prius anyway.

After V12 comes out and I get some seat time, I may try to test drive a "Lexus Teammate with Advanced Drive
    2022-24 Lexus LS".

    Source: https://www.caranddriver.com/lexus/ls

The 2024 Lexus LS luxury sedan is the automaker's flagship and largest non-SUV offering. . . . A 416-horsepower turbocharged V-6 returns smooth acceleration but lacks any real visceral appeal; a hybrid powertrain is available too.
    . . .
The price of the 2024 Lexus LS starts at $80,685 and goes up to $115,560 depending on the trim and options.
    . . .
The base LS500 receives EPA fuel economy ratings of 18 mpg city and 29 mpg highway and the AWD version checks in at 17 and 27 mpg, respectively. The LS500h hybrid’s 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway ratings
    . . .
All 2024 LS500 models come standard with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite of driver-assistance features, while the LS500h version uses the 2.5 version with Lexus's Teammate system which provides some limited hands-free operation. A more advanced hands-free driving-mode feature is an option. For more information about the LS's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.

Ugh, not just NO but H*LL NO.

IIHS says the tested safeguards were for the 2022 to 2024 LS. The 2022 had LSS+ 2.0, 2023 the 2.5, and the 2024 got 3.0. Either the IIHS messed in lumping them all together, or LSS+ 3.0 has the same levels of ADAS safeguards as the 2.0.

The optional TJA available for the Prime has driver monitoring cameras. TSS+ 3.0 does not.

Even if it did, it could still fail for not alerting and behaving to the IIHS's test standards.

    I went through the 2024 owner's manuals.

Only the hybrid model has the teammate advanced drive, which is a self-driving package for highways. However, it is downgraded to LSS+ A from LSS+ 3.0, missing many features on LSS+ 3.0. So, unless you activate the teammate advanced drive, you are stuck with a much less sophisticated ADAS on the hybrid.

The other models have LSS+ 3.0 but no teammate advanced drive.

All models have the driver-monitor camera.

All models have traffic-jam assist (TJA) as an option.

So, it looks like the new LS models are very similar to Gen 5 Prius Prime with LCA/FTCA/TJA, except for the hybrid, which has a less sophisticated ADAS (LSS+ A) unless you activate the teammate advanced drive.

2023 and older models without the teammate advanced drive did not have a driver-monitor camera.

The model without the teammate advanced drive IIHS tested that scored poorly must have been a 2023 or older model with LSS+ 2.5, LSS+ A, or LSS+—not with LSS+ 3.0. Those models, unlike all 2024 models with or without the teammate advanced drive, did not have driver-monitor camera.

Incidentally, TJA requires a driver-monitor camera. I am guessing that TJA/driver-monitor camera will eventually become a common feature in TSS 3.0—especially after the new IIHS safeguard ratings—currently only being available on Gen 5 Prius Prime, Lexus LS500/500h, etc.

'Standard' safety features are often forced upon the transpoetation industry because of lawsuits. Take the notion of backup cameras. You run over enough toddlers which brings on lawsuits & then the industry pretty much has to do what they should have already done.

These IIHS tests are another, which is why these partial auto driving safeguards ones are a good thing, even if reports confuse it with the systems' operation.

Safety features is the most heavily weighted category. While I find the IIHS's seatbelt requirement odd, why would any manufacturer let something like DCC operate with automatic braking turned off? That other scores here can be improved by software changes.

And something that should have been included with every back up camera installed since day one is a way to clean the camera (or hide it when not in use so it doesn't get dirty).

Same with LED headlights, from the start, they should have seen when testing the lights in winter conditions that they'll freeze over since they don't produce enough heat to melt it. If they haven't noticed it, they haven't tested in winter conditions long enough.

That camera looks me in the eye every time I open the hatch. Sometimes a quick swipe of the thumb is all it takes.

I don't know what to tell you about the headlights. For all the advantages LED brings to the party, I wouldn't give them back over ice storm performance.

Maybe try splashing them with antifreeze before you start, like airplanes do?

Surprisingly, the backup camera cleaning system is available on the Prius Prime XSE Premium (and other specifications? not sure).

My favorite design was the VW Golf generation 7 which hides the rear view camera behind the Volkswagen logo, and mechanically opens when needed, protecting it in rain, snow, and car washes.

Don't know if it's still available after version 8 software, but it used to be you could show rear view while driving on ½ of the tesla display. Talk about the best view possible w/out interference of A-pillar & other elements of horrible ability to see out of a car.

Yes, you still can. It turns on the rear and the two rear facing front fender cameras. Gives a pretty good view of what's behind the car.

It blocks the map but the navigation next turn direction is moved to the left side of the display, right below the speed indicator.

This shows how crucial these IIHS automation safeguards are. Ford Mustang Mach-E got a poor rating because of the safety-features section. Safety features include deactivation of automatic emergency braking (AEB) in dynamic radar cruise control (DRCC). This is likely what happened in this fatal crash NHTSA is investigating. Hopefully IIHS will make these safeguard ratings part of their overall safety ratings and will not recommend vehicles that get a poor rating so that the OEMs can corrective actions.
