Hybrid Battery Mounting Bolts

Usually the silver ones with the silver washer go in the brackets that hold the battery down and keep it moving from side to side two of them hold each bracket to the frame of the car and then two or three of the silver 12s go right behind the seat on top of the battery in the threaded holes that you can see in the battery case It really doesn't matter but whatever you think I can take a picture of a battery mounted reasonably properly and you can see where the silver screws go I think they're all so silver where they go on the battery case to the floor of the frame of the car. And then of course the 10 mm ones hold the case halves together.

 

You're lucky it's not a gen2 Prius... There's 12 bolts for the 4 that holds down pack in Gen3... And it doesn't really matter that much as long as the bolts holding down the seat belts and their brackets don't get confused.

 

If you're playing whack-a-mole and you're going to be whipping the battery in and out a few times because you've got more time than money You want to trim your brackets and carefully place bolts only where you need them so that you can whip the battery out again the next time in like 22 minutes instead of the 48 or so it took initially I have mine set up in the generation too so that I can literally take the bolts out of the top of the bracket wings that are mounted to the inside quarter panel frame of the car and just lift up on them with my hands they bend and then undo three bolts or so that are literally holding the battery down to the frame of the car Don't have to get behind the back seat backs or bottoms or any of that those bolts aren't there there's one bolt in the center at the rear going to the floor of the trunk and the two on the edge right above the spare tire holding the battery down to the frame of the car and then the two bolts the 8 mm that are holding the orange wires under the front end of the battery and then I'm turning the battery sideways and sliding it up a little ramp I've made out of plywood right out the back of the car One handed one person right now this is in the generation two The three is a little easier. Nope the car can land upside down in an accident and the battery still won't come loose from being mounted this way how do I know I had a battery junk battery mounted this way in the junk Prius that I picked up with a forklift at the junkyard flip the car over and dropped it off to forklift from 12 ft in the air smash the roof screwed up the tailgate battery or anything in the car didn't budge few pieces of plastic then we went to lunch.

There's lots of aftermarket battery installers that don't use all the bolts... I'm constantly running out of 12mm bolts because when I work on Prius I do it right and use all the bolts no matter what because that's how it was designed. And Gen3's design takes way less time than Gen2 in terms of bolts.

 

Well if you're playing whack them all you just want a few bolts in so you can whip the thing in and out the three or four times that you're going to probably have to do this while you learn to play the game and then after that you can lock it down in there with loctite if you want but three bolts in the battery and two in the wing covers hells from a 12-ft drop of near 4,000 lb vehicle so I think we're in there pretty good.

 

I'd rather do it right the first time... There's more than a dozen ways to find a bad module before you put the pack back in.
