Of course, if you really care about this, all you have to do is to lift the removable central-vent lid and look into the cells. There, you will see the plates nicely deep-immersed ("flooded") with a solution of sulfuric acid.

This is what GS Yuasa says about AGM batteries:

Adding water to AGM batteries will result in irreparable damage to the battery or the vehicle.

Battery storage and maintenance guide | Yuasa Batteries Inc

Gen 5 battery made by GS Yuasa explicitly says "Add distilled water" on it.

Or to represent one’s self as something other than what you actually are. But you know this already, don’t you.

Ok I'm not sure what @Paul Gregory is arguing about after reading several pages in this thread. Multiple members here have given supporting evidence for their argument that the Gen 5 Prius doesn't have an AGM battery but rather a flooded 12V with a vent hose (a diagram was even posted!). In addition, you physically have the car itself and you can physically check it but for some reason, refuse to do so (because it might prove you wrong?).

Either way, quoting older information without verifying it's for the new generation doesn't make it true. Yes, the older generation Prii used AGM so yes there is information out there stating that the older generation require AGM replacement batteries and, yes, that's possible that your "sources of information" is misinformed or just simply didn't know Toyota made the change and is going off their (blanket) experience.

Again, you literally have the vehicle with you, couldn't you just look? I don't understand why there is a doubt.

You might end up seeing it inadvertently: perhaps a name change has occurred. Similar pattern emerged. Check

Possibly, but the pattern is the same. And the argumentative poster here pops up once in the thread.

I'm not arguing about anything. I merely wanted to be sure what type of battery it is. I couldn't tell by looking, because of how it was mounted, so I wanted to make sure. Apparently having a different opinion makes me a troll, and a liar about owning a Prius. I joined this forum to gain information and contribute my own experiences, but I certainly didn't expect such discourteous treatment. I may seek to go elsewhere, for more mature discourse.

I feel you 43216, when the mech handling my car did a crappy job, leaving one his tools in the engine compartment, I went to the manager of that department and calmly turned the tool over to him. The manager later became the mgr of the parts department, he got me a permanent 15% off any parts I ordered. If you have to use a dealer be very wary. And escalate up the chain if have to.

well first off it was challenging purchasing a car during Covid, especially a new model like the GEN 5 I had deposit down at 4 dealerships! I still only have seen one other, and I am in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis! I wasn’t going to pay any crazy markups, ended up purchasing from a small volume locally owned Toyota dealership that has one store! Thought I’d give them a chance with the service! I’ll be going back to the other dealers that you talk about for warranty claims only! Live and learn✌️

I removed the battery, and confirmed that it is not an AGM, despite a lot of information I was given to the contrary. I did not replace it with a lithium iron phosphate battery as I originally planned, because the Prius battery has a 3-wire monitoring connection, and it was best not tampered with.
My battery can still go too low to start the car in as little as 2 hours, but I have come up with some solutions. I connect a battery maintainer as soon as I park for more than an hour. I'll have to do this until what I think is excessive battery drain, stops.

Sometimes, you can spend considerable time finding an answer to a question, and often we can be misled from a large consensus that may be wrong. Although I was fairly certain of my answer at the time, I was not yet completely convinced, and that was essential.
Unfortunately, my state of uncertainty was taken as some sort of challenge to some, who obviously became insulted, and commenced name-calling. Being right doesn't entitle anyone to abusive behavior.

Despite a lot of information you cherry-picked to the contrary, like that ridiculous repair-shop quote about Gen 2 and Gen 3, which had no relevance whatsoever to Gen 4 and Gen 5. In fact, you had made up your mind that it was an AGM not because of the information you found, but you thought that—because of some misconception in your mind—AGM was the only way to go and there was no other way, and Toyota would never use a flooded-cell battery, as you stated in one of your posts. That is why you kept cherry-picking misinformation to justify the misconception in your mind rather than looking for the facts.
If you didn't care about the consensus, which was not even a consensus but 100% certainty among the actual owners in this forum, why did you even bother to post about it, which people kept telling you over and over here that you made your point but no one agreed with you and you should quit posting misinformation? You think people would tolerate serial misinformation here? What would that turn this forum into if they did?

Instead of doubling down on this and still blaming all the other posters, who have been more than generous to you, you could have apologized for being wrong and repeatedly challenging everyone else on your misconception/misinformation.

Obviously you considered yourself an impeccable source, and your verdict was beyond reproach. I had a difference of opinion with you at the time, and you obviously lost your temper and called me a troll. I think a decent human being would feel compelled to apologize. I make no apology for being misled by a faulty consensus.

    There we go again.

By the way, I have never called you a troll. You can look at my posts. I was very nice to you despite your constant misinformation. And no one agreed with you here.

“I make no apology for being misled by a faulty consensus.” Except, the consensus was not faulty and you were not mislead. So, you are right even when you are wrong, and everyone else is wrong even when they are right. You have surpassed even some well-known politician on this.

You make it sound like I did something deliberately disruptive, which constitutes a lie in itself.

I don't think it was deliberate. However, I was having a hard time believing that it was not deliberate.

Nevertheless, most people here thought that it was deliberate, which is why they were not nice to you. What would you expect if you challenged actual Gen 4 and Gen 5 owners with information relevant only to Gen 2 and Gen 3, ignored the statement "Add distilled water" on the battery label, ignored the statement that it was a flooded-cell battery by the battery manufacturer, etc., etc., and did all of this in a very improper manner? You could have made a couple of such posts, but it just kept going and going. And, of course, you could have simply looked at your battery instead of constantly challenging the other owners.
