Hello I've been having an issue with my 2008 toyota prius. The red triangle with the exclamation point and the red vehicle with the exclamation point came on and I have error codes for camshaft position sensor. I took it to the dealer in Glen Burnie and they are claiming I need an ac dc power inverter for 5750$ they are also claiming that I don't need any of the parts that the scanner is saying are bad.

you canpick up a used inverter for a hundred or two, and installation isn't difficult.

What are all the trouble codes the dealer found? Trouble code P00320 is not a valid trouble code

If you paid for diagnostics, you should be able to get the trouble codes that were found. Call the dealership and get the trouble codes.

If that fails, you need a better scan tool than what you are using, like was advised in one of your other threads that you created (https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3452382).

Read the following thread for an analysis of more capable scan tools: https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3290690
The Autel AP200 is a good choice.

That code doesn't make sense inverters for a generation 2 or free practically You can't give those things away they're so reliable so you just swap it out but I doubt that's your problem but it could be

In this day and age they can claim anything they want to and if you want to pay for it they can take your money no problem even if it doesn't fix the car we can be tied up in months for nonsense You see how things go these days pay us up front blah blah blah and then your vehicle takes two years to get fixed or something similar Just crazy and you're just out of vehicle while all these shenanigans are going on like whoops who cares No forget that

Scanners don't tell you whether a part is bad or not, they only tell you of a problem with the circuit as a whole. It is up to the human involved to follow the diagnostic procedure to locate where the problem is. It may be a part that broke but it also might be a wire or a connector that broke or it might be something else.

There should be more codes than that. The red triangle (master warning light) usually comes on when there's a fault in the hybrid drive system.

The 3 codes listed are all in the ECM (engine computer) and by themselves will only cause the "check engine" light to come on. A complete failure of the cam position sensor (P0340) might prevent the engine from starting and running, but that sets specific codes.

Put the P0340 with the P0011, and there could be a fault with the VVT solenoid sticking, or something with the timing chain.

P0420 is low catalytic converter efficiency.

I've been asking around trying to figure out if p0340 and p0011 can cause the red triangle with the exclamation point and the exclamation point and the car. Someone on r/ ask a mechanic claimed that they could

Well, pick someone to believe and follow them.

    Good luck with your problem.
