Hummmm, Home Depot, a common denominator.

Is it the fault of home Depot (or Lowes)? Don't the merchants simply rely on equifax, transunion, et al?
Not too long ago - Experian (formerly TRW) killed a deal we had when they represented me as NOT having a score in the 800's. Instead - they reported me as dead. Fortunately there are monitary punishments for screwups - but the remedies are slow in coming. It's hard to vent - if you're declared dead.

Sometime touch screens won’t work for me, say at Walmart self-pay (it’s cilantro, dammit). Gets me wondering…

Don't they and other credit card companies keep their own databases of customers' personal information? Then the credit score companies aren't the ones operating and securing the card readers in stores.

Last time at Walmart self-check, when tapping the litany of questions at the end, I (inadvertently and not for the first time) hit “tell me more” at the credit card pitch.

Groan…, it’s “wait for an associate” time. Walmart lady arrives, quickly confirms I DON’T want another credit card, but hey, why don’t we check you’ve paid for everything here. o_O

That was just a single event among many security breaches and data thefts across a very broad field. Some other breach sources were never identified or disclosed.

They, and their payment service providers, are responsible for IT security. Thus, yes, that particular one was Home Depot's fault. IIRC, shared fault with one of its service providers.

Equifax, TU, Experian, etc., are credit reporting agencies, not card or transaction processors. They were not part of these security breaches. Though some of them had separate security incidents of their own.

    Sometimes, it can be fun:
    • Answered 'unknown caller'
    • Slight accented voice, "Are you interested in selling your Huntsville home?"
    • Me, "Well yes, at my estate sale."
    • Voice, "When will that be?"
    • Me, "When I'm dead."
Of course there are variations such as:
    • "Busy right now, call me back at the estate sale."
    • Wide range of excuses:
      • "My <pension|social security|pay check> won't be in until"
      • "Mail me the offer so I can write a check."

I pay with my phone when I can but sometimes at Wally I'm forced to use either plastic or titanium - depending on whether it's an 'on the books' transaction (plastic) or I'm buying something for my CFO - or a new toy that I've been saving for.
I use titanium for these - and I get texts for each.
My CFO monitors everything else assiduously so skimmers and scammers are easily and rapidly detectable and correctable - something that we have not had to deal with in decades.
The one good thing about all plastic or titanium vendors is that they want to keep vending - so I worry very little about the process.
Sometimes I'm forced to use these pieces of cotton-linen blended paper with pictures of green people on them that merchants are reluctantly forced to trade for their wares.
I keep some of these on my person at all times for emergency use - because defication occurs.

I'm seldom bothered with 'unknown callers' but when it does happen they either make themselves known by VM - or their call is deleted, unanswered.

The slow drain in the upstairs tub. It's bothering me.

We tried clearing the built-in trap, it was already clean. Snakity-snake snake for hours. Got a few problem bits out but it always comes back clean now, and the drain is better but still slow.

I've tried hot water. Boiling water. Drain cleaner. Vacuum cleaner. I don't get it, this sucker just wants to drain poorly.

Check the vent line. While a clogged one should also affect the connected sink, relative position of the drain to vent line plays a role. Then the volume difference affects perception.

Well you certainly came to the right place to - um - 'vent' about it.

    +1.

It's the fourth rule of plumbing.
(the first three.....Hot water is on the left; cold on right. Crap runs downhill. Never, ever, put your tools - especially your hands, in your mouth.)

Vent sounds fine and the two other drains common to that vent are performing properly.

I'll thread a camera down there tomorrow and see if I can see anything.

My next guess is settling or poor installation messed up the incline of the line. This will cause issues in tubs/showers cause of height over floor differences.

Got a pretty steep Visa bill this month, due in large part to a 1/3 payment to roofer. As always, the default option for payment is $10. Nice to see banks looking out for you...

I suppose it's possible? That's in the 70-year old part of the house, all that plumbing is huge metal.

My own bet is on foreign object given that there are kittens and a toddler in this house, and the cats already stole the drain strainer. Wish I was kidding, one would take it out of the tub every morning and the others would turn it into a hockey match.

South of the border, I believe long ago federal regulations forced that minimum payment up to the $150 - $160 range.

In the US banks love to get that 17-29% interest compounded daily from the day of purchase if you don’t pay it off entirely at the end of the month. They like it better if your payment shows up a day or two later when they can charge a late fee larger than the minimum payment.

They do warn you if you read the statement

Better to pay off each month

My cats did the same with a sink strainer. Found a better one that they haven't been able to pry up yet.

There are acid based drain cleaners that could break down things the typical lye ones don't.

Acid designed to clean rust off of wheel rims works pretty good in the sink drains, only don't get it on that nice brass finish.
