Two questions...

    My 2012 burns oil, but slowly. Mechanic said let's find out what state it's in. Put in fresh oil a little over two months ago. I drove 1,000 miles and checked the dipstick. Oil is between the two dots. What is the oil burn rate? Mechanic wanted to determine how long it takes to go through a quart of oil.

    Second, unrelated question. Prius finally succeeded in getting a good body. How come I never see it on the road? Too much competition from electric these days?

    If the oil on the dipstick started exactly on the upper dot after the oil change (you need to know that for sure) and after 1000 miles it is halfway between (you didn't say where between the 2 dots though) , then assuming the space between the two dots represents one quart, your burn rate will be one quart every 2000 miles.

    Space between the dots on dipstick is 1.5 liter, 1.6 quart (from page 427 of Owner's Manual). Distance between the two marks is roughly 1.5” (measured).

    you should be able to figure it out from there.

    missing info:

    1. was it right on the top mark at the top to begin with?

    2. how much has the level dropped?

    Always do your oil checks under the same conditions, say on level ground, at least 10 minutes after shut down.

    It was at the top dot. Now it's between. Related question. How do you know for sure about the level when one side of dipstick looks streaked?

    Can you describe where between? For example; 1” below top mark.

    ^that example indicates one liter loss btw. See how that works?

    The dipstick tends to draw oil up the tube when removed, which tends to smear the dipstick edges, if you reinsert immediately for the check. Good ploy is to remove dipstick and wait 5 minutes before reinserting for the check. Also, I’ve found the dipstick face towards front of vehicle will be easier to read, less messed up.

    That's going to depend on where you live.

    Price in most places.
    Availability in others.
    High interest rates aren't helping.

    The G5 is (finally!) a decent looking car that doesn't handle like a pig on roller skates and it also does 0-60 in less than 10 seconds.
    HOWEVER (comma!!!!)
    If you're going to pay north of $30k why settle for an eco-hatch?

    .toyota is selling every g5 prius they can make, and especially primes. i haven't seen many either, and i suspect it is because the quantity produced is small, as they had forecast low sales, but hoped for more, which is what they got.
    next year should see more, hopefully.

    It's a little 'young' for my tastes, but then it's a vast improvement over the G4.
    Most cars are.

    I suppose that if you live in a place where gas is more than $3 a gallon their nearly 60mpg fuel economy makes up for the Corolla copycat styling and the super high price.

    I drive a truck these days, so I'm just glad I no longer have to look up to see somebody else's rear bumper. :)
