    If you look closely, you'll see that everything reported there involves a discontinued model.

    This is entirely formed and shaped to attract some fines, and then sink to the bottom.

    Are you sure? Because the article states

    all of which are currently in production

    And say

    Some JDM Sales Halted

    You don't halt sales of a discontinued vehicle.

    The manufacturers are basically saying after an internal review that they made mistakes on, or maybe even fudged, some paper work, but the cars do meet Japan safety standards. In isolation, this may not be big deal, but this after the safety issues reported at Daihatsu, and Hino had been caught cheating on efficiency and emission tests not to long ago.

    - didn't the 1st linked read state they welded reinforcement steel into some places to fake how they can be crash-worthy? Sounds pretty volitional.
