Because I wasn’t driving my car when I had the head gasket problem (before the engine transplant), I drained the car’s 12 Volt Battery just before my trip to Hybrid Pit.

I was able to jump the car with a battery jump pack. Also before the trip, I connected it to a battery charger , settings at 12 volt, AGM, and at 2 amps. The battery charger fully charged the car’s 12 volt battery before my trip to Hybrid Pit.

This is my second 12 volt battery, installed on July 2020. This is almost 4 years old. The original 12 volt battery (lasted 7 years), never drained itself. This was the first time it’s ever happened. Granted this was the longest time it sat and not being driven.

I ended up purchasing a battery charger to see how much longer I could keep it.

    IMG_6599.jpeg

It charged it to a full charge twice but on the 3rd and 4th try, I never got the green fully charged light , so I thought the battery was compromised.

to verify this, I purchased a battery tester from Clore Automotive and these were the following test results.

After these results, I’m charging the battery again. Let’s see if I can get it back to a full charge.

After 6-1/2 hours, finally got the complete full charge with the green light.

    [ IMG_6621.jpeg

Kept it plugged it and see what happens.

12 volt battery states to get it fully charged within 10 hours. I will unplug after 3-1/2 hours.

I’m testing it out because I did this battery charge overnight (twice), while I was asleep and when I woke up after the battery was charging just under 10 hours, the battery charger was still on charging mode, amber light.

    The manual did show this

    upload_2024-6-27_20-20-13.jpeg
    I’m currently in n Phase 5.

Based on the chart, when I had it charging overnight, the charger was in Phase 7. All I saw was an amber light with no green light.

Doesn't sound like a healthy 12 volt battery. You've charged it several times,
and it still won't fully charge? Since it's not that old, you should still have a warranty
on it. Take it back and get a new battery, charges it until it's fully charged,
they don't worry about it for several years.

What’s the specd CCA, 325? Then 311 seems lowish, indicative of a battery on the way out.

I’ve always found good-condition batteries read well above specd CCA, say at least 25~50 higher.

The battery is almost 4 years old. I would think the warranty has already ended.

Yes , the CCA test result came in lower than what is shown on the battery at CCA 325.

the SOC is at 72% and the SOH is at 95%, so hoping the battery still has some decent usable life.

But maybe it is time for a new battery.

Depends on what battery you purchased. It's an 8 year warranty from Toyota.

Just went to the dealer. Yes it’s 84 months.

This same dealer installed the battery for me.

They said in order to honor the 84 months warranty, the battery has to fail through their own battery tester.

Secondly, they said if it does fail, they will pro rate it for however many months it failed before the 84 months.

Thirdly , in order for this to happen, the dealer has to install it and the customer has to pay the dealership the $245 labor for install.

It’s crazy how this works. Nuts!

To be fair, if the battery failed within 2 years of purchase, then they replace the battery for free and no labor cost.

WHAT??? I think you need a new dealer.
The "parts" department told me they would have to lead test it and if it failed they
would replace it. No charge. And pro rated if over 2 years old.

Last time I dealt with a pooped-out Prius battery, I swapped it for an older (but not pooped-out) one to get the car going, and then drove it to the Toyota dealer where the pooped-out one had been bought, and plopped the battery on the parts counter. They took it in back, put in on their tester, confirmed it was pooped out, and I walked out the door carrying a new one with the pro rata cost of the pooped-out one deducted.

Seems like some dealers are more reasonable than others.

I called another dealership. I spoke to a parts department specialist and they said the same thing. If the battery was purchased from a dealership and their testing holds true that the battery has failed, the battery will be replace or pro rated regardless of who installed it.

They considered my situation and this dealership is willing to have me take the battery to them, even though the battery was not purchased from them.

if their tests proves that the battery is defective, they will not pro rate it , but even better, the parts specialist said that they will replace it with a new battery at no charge. I give them the bad battery and they will give me a new one.

I couldn’t believe that they would go out of their way to accommodate my situation.

This will all happen next week. Let’s see the outcome.

I will probably be taking my car here for future parts, maintenance and services.
