Holy moly that concept picture is horrendous...looks like the ugly step-sister of a station wagon and it looks way too much like a Prius.

I have an idea for Toyota...since many/most folks who own Corolla's use them for driving to work, come out with a SMALLER version, maybe a 2-door, that can get 70 mpg due to being very light.

    I'm fine with the looks.

What I want to know: will there be a version small enough to replace our Prius c, or a version large enough to replace our Mazda 6?

...or will it be right down the middle like the current Prius, wrong size to replace either?

Humm , seems that Toyota does not look interested in going in EV territory even in PHEV territory ........for the corolla or the camry or the corolla cross........or even the Prius EV ..while Kia , Hunday or chineese brands and european brands are going in different directions.....hybrids are doomed in 10 years
is this the decline of the Toyota empire.

Interesting that Toyota sees the BYD hybrid system as the one to beat.

Depending on timing of regulations in the different markets and manufacturer ramp up, I would not be surprised to see North America to get the new Corolla a year after everyone else. We were the last to get the latest and greatest engine and transmission tech for the Corolla in the past.
The former is the Yaris, and the later the Camry.

The engine event had them saying these new engines are for PHEVs too. Their delay in taking EVs seriously has Toyota behind in battery supply compared to others.

It looks identical to Gen 5 Prius. That is because it is all speculation at this point, and the scoop has no idea what it is talking about.

I guess the way I read it, BYD is the business to beat. The competitor they would most want to knock down.

I'll give them points for not shifting the sizes too much over time. The current Impreza is the size of the old Outback, for example.

So even if they aren't the right size for our needs, it's nice to see that something stayed stable.

The magazine did get the looks of the gen5 Prius right.
There was a bit about a BYD model being efficient when in hybrid mode.

That was very close to the launch during the masked-road-testing phase though. I doubt even Toyota knows how the next-generation Corolla looks like at the moment.
