    Hello,

I am not knowledgeable in these things at all and I have a hard time understanding what the mechanic is explaining. My ABS and Brake lights are on and I need them to be cleared to pass state inspection. I brought it to a shop specializing in hybrids, and I was given a quote of $900 for an ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement.

This feels like a little much from what I've found - but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any advice please? Below is some more information.

    ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSES - BRAKE LIGHT
    Codes:
    • C0205 Left front speed sensor circuit
    • C1236 Object attached to tip of left front wheel speed sensor
    • C1345 Not learning linear valve offset
    Notes:
During visual inspection we found that there has been a subpar repair at the body side of the harness of the LF wheel speed sensor, and also damage on connector side of that harness. We will need to repair those items and inspect the tone ring on the axle, and replace LF wheel speed sensor. It is unknown at this time if the C1345 code will go away with these repairs, but the above repairs have to be completed first and we can re-test.

Yeah you're getting taken for a ride look at what it says about your speed sensor there's probably something on the tip of it probably clean it in that code will go away The linear valve offset is more problematic and you're going to probably wind up being told you need to break actuator in this model car that's about $1,436 just for the part and then about another 5 to $800 to have it put on depending upon what state where you are and who you're dealing with and by the sound of it you'll be at the high end of that a good mechanic can put this on and 2.2 hours and have the brakes bled at home

Thank you for the tips. They have advised that there is damage to the connector side of the harness. I'm not sure what that actually means, but I will call around and see if I can get a better quote for this sensor replacement. As far as the brake actuator - I hope that's not the case! I don't usually hear the pump running, maybe a few times while I'm driving 15+ miles and I only hear it when I brake.

A C1345 by itself isn't any scarier than a message just saying "please do the linear solenoid offset learning procedure thank you."

It's only if you do that and the code stays put, or a C1368 joins it, that you start to worry if the actuator is kaput.

The quote is more expensive than just cleaning or replacing a front speed sensor should be, but I notice the writeup describes wiring harness and connector damage, so repairing that would legitimately be more work than a simple sensor job.

It also mentions examining the tone ring, which is on the end of the axle shaft, so that's a bit of a job right there. I don't know, myself, if I would bother with that unless I first had the sensor wiring and sensor squared away and there was still a problem. The shop might approach it differently because they don't want to have to see you twice.
