A thin film on the dipstick? I’d wager if you drew a small bottle it’d be near-opaque black, but still better than a typical gasser.

I remember those Vegas! I was quite the "American Built Only" car buyer when I was younger (Ford, Chevy, Pontiac, and Chrysler)...didn't get my first rice-burner until 2000 when my Father-in-Law replaced his old 1992 Subaru with a Toyota Avalon. Got my first Toyota in 2005, a Tacoma, and we've been all Toyota/Scion since.

Never understood how people are attracted to someone based on what they own/afford -- well -- unless it is a cute dog.:) Actually, doesn't even need to be cute -- being a dog is enough.

    ^Yea this^
Hey there fast food hamburger lover .... Here's a great idea; don't even bother looking at the menu until you get to the front of the 10-minute line - and only then start humming & hawing & contemplating with your friend next to you what you may want or might not want. Then after you decide - discuss with 'em what do you think.

For the price that most fast food joints are charging I can go to a local restaurant.
    Call ahead...pay...done.
Second choises are two family owned grocery stores in my turf that have a deli/hot-bar - with surprisingly good food.
MUCH faster and better than Mickey-D's.

    Yeah.

I may have to wait in line behind some navel gazer, but I try to limit the number of people that I empower with the ability to give me a....reason to vent.

Geez I remember returning to Costco's Tire Centre (because they'd managed to mount 3 rights and 1 left, with directional tires), and waiting, seething, while the sole counter person explained the pros and cons of various tires to a dubious customer. They went on for about 15 minutes. Guess I learned a bit about self-control that day. Not much though, I was steamed for the rest of the day.

Then there's that member in the party that wants to create their own restaurant recipe. "Can I swap out the mashed potatoes for broccoli? .... Can you make the sauce without garlic?"
As though 90% of restaurants don't buy institutional gravies, sauces, etc ... & the party member already knows that ... & they've been there before & already had the Q asked & answered.

When we travel, those grocery stores are our first choices.

I'll 'fess up ... there was a restaurant in Detroit's Greektown that had good vegetarian grape leaves, and then, without ever taking them off the menu, just started answering "we don't have those today", for years.

So I sort of made a point of asking for them every time I was there. For years.

At long last, they brought them back ... got a new chef, who made them on site, they weren't good vegetarian grape leaves anymore, they were great vegetarian grape leaves.

And it was just after I'd accepted an offer to move out of state.

    I felt bad about that....

Hey we need some dolmades action in the foodie thread.

I don't have a lot of good Greek recipes. <--- the vent, for scorekeepers

But we've figured out how to do killer plakis gigantes, on the charcoal grill no less.

Had a very small, brownish bird (Finch? Sparrow?) flying down way too close to the road and, yep, right into the grill of my Prius.

When I got to my destination, looked in there and there he/she was...dead. (Poor thing) Anyway, I had to brainstorm how to get him/her out of there without removing the undercover or front grill but was successful with a very skinny and long trim tool.
