I have a 2010 Prius premium. Got it with 80k miles, added 70 in 2 years (drive 30k for work a year). Did usual maintenance but last week driving to LA, my car did “check hybrid system” warning. Car than started losing power and than other things tripped - Check PSE, ABS down, PowerSteering light, the dash looked like Christmas. Well once I got off hwy and at red light, the car speedometer went out (no numbers) but had all lights still. Waited about 20 min while I got Scanner at auto zone, and said only code was cat converter (mine was stolen so had generic one) and coolant pump b failed. Got it home and no more checked hybrid system. Replaced pump, spark plugs, radiator fluid, and oil too while I was at it.

today I started the car, and the rattling noise of death happened. The video embedded has the same sound but mine is harsher and “charging” fuel lines didn’t work.

Then the check hybrid system came on and so did the same lights as before…I got scan tool and no pump error this time, but everything came on. Then trying to drive it just in my culdesac it started vibrating and adding gas was doing nothing basically. The engine shut off and was just the EV I think or 12V. Turned car off and second check of scanner said cylinder 3 misfire and cat error code. Strong smell is coming from exhaust but I’m assuming it’s cause of oil and my generic cat cause I was burning oil as well.

so now I’m getting Dr Prius OBD to check battery, and a leak down test to make sure bad pump didn’t cause other issues, but what else should I look at? I know check hybrid system and the rattling is a rabbit hole of problems, but want to get this fixed if possible this week.

I repair medical equipment so I am pretty handy and work with HV everyday so touching this doesn’t phase me, but obviously don’t want to spend days doing a bunch of not needed stuff. Took picture of under the hood in case that helps figure out what it could be if I can’t see something

you need a prius aware scanner to get the correct codes and sub codes. autel maxi 200 is supposed to be pretty good but idk if it does 2010. tech stream is the gold standard. toyota dealer would have that.

I used an autel maxi 200 on my 2010 Prius. The subcodes for the DTC are listed in the DTC freeze frame with labels that start with "Detail code".

    SM-A536V ?
