When it rains, it pours. Still another (unrelated?) symptom... Any ideas about this? Seems different from the other creak reports I have seen. CONTEXT Have not had this at all, for a few years. Car drives smoothly, no strange noises. A few years ago, had some issues. Very costly, but dealer replaced the "clock winding" in the steering wheel, and also the steering rack. Now on this trip in hot TX weather: Most of the time, yet still a little ontermittent Particularly when it is HOT There is a pretty loud creak-creak sound, sounds like in front/below the driver... When: While I am turning the steering wheel past 180 degrees left or right But not when returning to cemter And it is related not to car motion but the fact that the steering wheel is turning (ie one at, say, 270 degrees, it doesn't keep on creaking) Kinda scary-loud. What could it be? I know nothing about this, but wonder if the new rack was properly lubed, or may need touch up lube if possible... Ideas?
You car is near 15 years old! Find me a 15 year old car that doesn't make strange creaking sounds and then I'll be willing to take this concern seriously.
I guess. Yet it was NOT doing that and now IS. I pay attention to such things in case there's significant maintenance needed.
