I have first drained and then refilled coolant on engine coolant reservoir, when refilling i unscrewed the air bleed bolt, everything seemed fine but a little suspicious because i’m pretty sure i spilled like a glass or more but after refilling it was full, The next morning I came to the car and I saw that there’s some coolant missing, I was like “great, I will open the lid now, let it run in maintenance mode and when theres 100% no air in it, i’ll fill up the remaining, However, after 10 mins of maintenance mode and 100% heat+ fan, my coolant reservoir appears full now, I didnt fill in anything, so I’m assuming theres air in the system and I have no idea how to bleed it out now considering I unscrewed bleed bold when refilling and did the maintenance mode thing... any help will be appreciated
No don't assume that you were supposed to fill it up to the mark that says it's above the full Mark you fill it up to the top line first and then you run the car and all of that business and then after everything is open circulating heat is working and all of that and you put everything back to the normal settings for the time of year no heat if it's hot out etc and then turn the car off it should be showing at the full mark when everything settles and is right not at the upper Mark that you filled it to but if you didn't do that oh well so here we are. So now you're sitting here on the full mark with the cap off the engine running heat working well life is good top it off and drive everything should be good just keep an eye and look for your overheat light to flash come on whatever it should not you should be good at this point.
This is the only thing we liked about the generation 3 is it was pretty easy to fill the coolant unlike the generation 2 which can take a good part of an afternoon can take I said

Without OBD equipment, I filled the coolant to the B mark, started the engine in maintenance mode, and ran it for about half an hour. The cooling fan started to rotate, indicating that the coolant began to circulate. Then I idled at 1500 rpm for 10 minutes to allow the coolant to circulate and exhaust the air naturally. Idle for 5 minutes and shut down. After the engine is turned off, the coolant will be at high temperature and pressure. Do not unscrew it to add coolant to avoid steam burns. Wait until tomorrow morning to fill up the coolant.
Thanks for reply I will try, can you please explain how did you idle at 1500 rpm, did you turn off maintenance mode and just use gas pedal to keep it at 1500 rpm?
As far as I can remember, if you press the accelerator within 50%, it runs at 1500 rpm, and if you press the accelerator over 50%, it runs at 2500 rpm.
The key to not getting air pockets is to fill VERY SLOWLY...... About a cup at a time, wait 5-10 seconds. Then another cup, wait, repeat. It will take longer to fill, but you won't need to burn money in maintainence mode. for hours..... Fill it to the "B" mark. If you fill it slowly, you'll hear the coolant draining, and the air being pushed out. Those who fill quickly, create pockets so the air can't escape. I've done it that way for all the vehicles and have never had issues with air pockets. I've done it at least 4 times on my Prius. No air pockets. After filling, start the engine and let it idle until it shuts off on it's own. Check the coolant level. It's likely right at the "full" mark. Top off if it's needed. Then drive the car around the block for 5-10 minutes making sure the engine runs as much as possible. Then part the car on level ground, shut it off. Go clean all the tools you use and put them away. Maybe 10 minutes. Check the coolant level. It's likely at the full make, again, ad as needed.
And the two threes that we had here we filled them up like Chapman talks about up to that silly Mark past the full mark take the car out for a drive time we get back with the car it's definitely warmed and heated up let it sit I don't know about an hour maybe a tad longer come out lift the hood and it's sitting right on the bee Mark or a full Mark sorry and that's that never had to look at it again but you always do anytime you lift the hood your eyes go right to that pink nonsense
Do you suggest me to drain everything now and follow your procedure, or I can somehow do it other way around, currently my coolant level is at (lets say the reservoir is connected in two parts and theres a middle line) currently its below that middle line, but If i will start car and let it heat im sure it will go above it
Is all the air out? Is the engine overheating? If all is fine, you don't need to do anything. Other than fill to just above the full line. So it's easier to see. Do it when the car has sat overnight. If you are still having issues, then drain it. It's NOT that hard. Just save the coolant. And refill with it.
Did you go through two fan cooling cycles with the reservoir cap off? I feel like it took my car a lot longer than 10 minutes the times that I've done it.
The correct procedure for checking the coolant level is to do it when the car is cold. As the coolant heats up, the level will go a little higher in the reservoir. This is normal. Just wait until the car is cold and add coolant until it comes up to the full line. Check the level again in one week when the car is cold. Then check all the fluid levels at every gas fillup.
You were already writing about this in another thread. It's not good to open another thread on the same subject.... You're just going to get the same answers, and bad comments. Stick with the first thread.
I don't know where the first thread is so.... Our good friends @NutzAboutBolts have a G3 coolant change video which IIRC details the post change bleed. Like. Comment. Subscribe.....
Usually in the threes that we had here sitting overnight will make all the air go bye-bye just sitting there when you come out in the morning if you undo the cap you may get a whoosh I guess that was some of your air and now you look at your level and it should be very close to the full mark if not a tad over you should be golden ready to go make sure the cap is tight
