    Hi everyone,

I recently found myself accidentally pressing the center console buttons (EV Mode, HOLD, Traction Control, etc.) on my 2023 Prius while driving. It got annoying — so I decided to do something about it.

I scanned the area with a 3D scanner, designed a custom cover, and 3D printed it to fit perfectly over the buttons. It prevents accidental presses but still looks OEM and clean. I’ve made a quick video showing how it works:

I’m curious — has anyone else run into this issue? Would something like this be useful for you? I might upload the 3D model to MakerWorld for free if people are interested.

Let me know what you think! Feedback (positive or critical) is welcome.

Can't say I've ever had that problem with the buttons, but I steer exclusively with my right hand and never lay it down the way you do, so...

Fit and finish look pretty good. I like that you brought the top surface flush with the base of the shifter plate. I'd probably consider looping the front of the cover all the way around the shifter to cover it all completely. Even if that means it won't fit over the shifter knob, that's not really a problem because the knob just screws off and on.

Nice ingenuity, well done. Can you match the factory exterior color of the car? How close is the filament to the factory toyota colors?

I don't put my hand there too but sometimes I just hit it so I realize I pressed later. Many times I saw "traction control is disabled" on the screen, I am like when did I even press that button? But I did

For the covar part, I thought that but normally I just wanted to cover button area, that's it.

I could cover it all the way front but you need to take knob off to put your cover, it would be too much work.
Or I could make more space so it will fit through hole without taking the knob off, but it would not look good this time. Also it will be extra work for modelling and printing time.

Thank you. There are tons of filament colors but they are all matte, not shinny like exterior of cars. You would need to paint it with the same paint with your car. I used black abs filament, and I also used fuzzy skin feature to match the center console skin texture. I will take closer photos.

If you’re interested in getting one, I put the STL file on MakerWorld (free), and I also listed a pre-printed version on eBay — both links are in the YouTube video description.

Test trial bambu matte charcoal color. Pretty good match and texture with fuzzy is pretty close.

It looks good, you can also print with any filament you want and change it anytime. I am also looking for another project. But nothing came to my mind yet.

I was making a spoiler, but it will take time because I need to make sure design is good and its safe.

If you are looking for ideas,

    1. Black hood emblems (they are currently on national backorder)
    2. Black overlays to remove the chrome "fish mouth" - I had to plastidip but a more permanent solution would be welcome.
    3. Little storage hangers/clips to replace the oh-shit bars in the back? To stow umbrellas or flashlights or other utility items?

It's probably also on national backorder for now, but you might consider the grille from the Nightshade Edition as a permanent solution. (Grille Sub-Assy, Radiator, Lwr) I'm pretty sure the grilles are compatible between the HEV and the PHEV, and your XSE is the same trim level as the Nightshade, so no problems there with the accent lights.

I don't have the part number right now, but a Toyota dealer could probably help you with that. It will begin with 53102. Price should probably be around $150 during the 4th of July sale.

A (bad)pic of the Nightshade grille:

Wow, good to know, thanks for the tip. $150 is a no brainer. If you get a chance later, please share the part number.

It's 53102-47260. $274.51 MSRP; should be $150-$160 around July 4th unless MSRP prices go up before then. Don't know if it's on backorder or not.

I thought the black section on the rear bumper was different on the Nightshade, but I guess I was wrong. It looks like there are only two versions for that: LE/SE and everything else.

For the record, the other differences in the Nightshade(beyond badges) are:

Front Upper Seat Cover - the silver accent strip is darker
    71074-47F10-C7 - driver
    71073-47J00-C7 - passenger

Dash Garnish (the part with the LED strip) - the silver trim is darker
    55011-47030-C2 - left
    55012-47030-C2 - right

Wheels - fully gloss black version of HEV 19"
    42611-47560

I think that's everything special to the Nightshade, but it's possible I missed something. The other parts(door handles, shark fin antenna, etc.) are just taken from the standard black Prius.

Hammer you are the man! thank you. I gotta take a closer look at front bumper to see how the trim is attached and if bumper has to come off, or trim is just clipped on. Will do that and keep an eye out for July 4th prices.

Is there a particular online retailer you like for OEM parts?

I tend to use Lewis Toyota out of Topeka, but only because they are the closest 31% off dealer to my location. (31% seems to be the limit the dealerships are allowed to discount). It's possible you might have one closer to you.

Assuming my parts aren't held up in customs forever, I'll be taking my front bumper off soon to install my new front radar sensors. I'll let you know how the bumper removal goes. From the repair manual, it doesn't look that bad(I've also removed my rear bumper, and that looks about the same).

Yes. I took mine off the other day. As long as you don't break it it comes off clean as one piece.

^ lol Have you had a chance to 3D print the front emblem in black? I would buy one!
