Having been a first second and third gen owner DIY and Prius chat are a required.

I'm always on the look out for new tech and subscribe to the church of going to full EV is skipping a few critical steps.
But he latest entry to EV seems to be the modular Slate EV truck backed in part by Jeff Bezos. Its modular design got me thinking. Not sure slate will make it but would their business plan be the way of the future and…….

how long before a Prius chat member (or like minded individuals) develop a hybrid generator that would turn an EV into an extended range hybrid.

what I know about the Ev system would scare many knowing that despite being stupid I rebuilt a trac battery so I’m sure there are hurtles I’m missing but what’s to stop converting any Ev to a hybrid with a little generator work?

Primary problem is figuring out how you're going to spoof a charge going into the battery pack while the car is actively using the battery pack. All EVs charge when the vehicle is parked. Maybe with a BMW you could get around that becuase they charge when vehicle is in use. Or perhaps through the regenerative braking circuit? But then how are you going to get all the warning systems to behave when there's amps going into the pack that aren't supposed to be?

I'd go with mounting it in place of rear hatch window with a road warrior style motif, perhaps a bit of rusted steampunk added in?

And as expected you guys prove just how dangerous I am lol.

first the easy answer as to where to put it. I am talking specifically about the new SLATE EV project which is a modular design that can be a 2 seat pick up, cargo “van” 5 seat mini suv.

in truck or jeep configuration there is an open 5 ft bed and I am seeing a drop in modular in the bed area

as for spoofing and your other wording on the issues I’m thinking you are looking at it as a work around. I am thinking can it be designed intended with factory support. Guess I’m asking is should we all write Jeff bezos and tell him he can make a few more bucks and make his truck better lol

i'm from the school of 'anything can be done, but is it worthwhile or cost effective'. so don't take me too seriously. adding an engine and 'hybrid generator' to a bev with a large battery would not be cost effective imo.
at 50 mpg, our hycam is a great road trip vehicle. i'm not sure how adding 1-200 miles of battery on top of that would be worthwhile.

Can you film a video of your wife's reaction when you tell her you're going to buy a brand new electric truck that you can't yet buy and once you get you're going to take it apart and modify it in a way that voids the warranty of both the truck and the new generator you're going to have to buy? It'd be fun to to watch...
