Auto-folding mirrors and turn indicators part numbers

    Basically all the world apart from North America uses the UNECE regulations I was referencing including Japan. So EU and Japanese Prius lights are the same, I believe.

    Maybe the side signals on your 2010 were a brighter US spec.

    Or maybe they're faulty, or some sort of wiring problem. If you're not being hyperbolic with 'can barely tell it's lighting up at all,' maybe check the voltage at the connectors.

    I'm not saying this is the reason, but I wired my lights exactly like the wiring diagram, which means I effectively tapped into the violet and pink wires before they went into the PDBA and became the yellow and blue wires. The biggest reason I stuck to the wiring diagram was my OCD/desire to make future service easier, but I also wasn't absolutely certain if the PDBA did anything to the signal. After all, Toyota could have easily run the wires back to the rear light straight from the junction connector, but they chose to run them to the PDBA for some reason.

    It's remotely possible there are some resistors in the PDBA that are reducing the strength of the signal for some reason. You're already working with K21 for the folding mirrors, maybe try switching to the violet and pink wires to see if that makes a difference.

    The US Prius gen 3 and 5 don't come with side blinkers, so there isn't a US equivalent regarding brightness for them.

    After cleaning up the wiring by putting it through the proper connectors the blinkers look brighter during the day. May have been poor connections when they were barely twisted together.

    Just need to troubleshoot my left BSM signal then everything will be back to normal except the power folding which I'll finish later. Might have to run a new wire if there's a break in the positive wire, but hopefully it's just a small section I have to rewire.

    @Hammersmith Looking over the write up you gave, I realized I haven't grounded anything noted to need to be connected to a ground. If it's noted to need to connect to ground, even if the ground wire exists, did you mean to ground it to another ground wire or to a chassis ground?

    Example:
    O9 - 9 - Ground - white/black - connect to a ground - I think this already exists

    I think if I ground the b/w in the driver side passenger well, it might fix my BSM indicator error. I've been troubleshooting it in my spare time and as far as I can tell all of the runs have no breaks, but the error is persisting.

    Despite a few hours of trying to figure out why I can't complete a circuit with the wire from the BSM sensor to OR2, it seems wiring in the folding mirror connections to OK2 and the controls made it happy and my BSM error's magically gone.

    Just need to wire the driver folding mirrors to K21 and tap the passenger side to those. Unfortunately that's the hard part. hah.

    Power folding is up and running! If you remove the lower section of the dash and knee impact guard bar, then disconnect the ECU from the bracket it becomes pretty easy to work under the dash. K20 and K21 grounds were already there, so I just needed to do the power mirror connections and tap them with the passenger side.

    It's pretty cramped in the K21 harness so I removed the first piece of tape keeping it together.

    Glad I finally finished this project and happy I did it!

    Sorry I disappeared for a bit. Life got in the way of regular posting for a while there. I suspect you'll enjoy the new features. I think you can understand why I don't recommend the project to most people, but they sure are nice if you're willing to commit to a whole lot of work to get them. I'm pretty sure we're the only two people in the US and Canada that have them.

    @Hammersmith I absolutely love them and I'm really grateful for all your help getting me started!

    If I were to add tips, it would be:
    Tape all the new wires together so they have more support when routing them.
    You possibly can save the pins from o9/n9. I pushed one out and it looks the same as what we added.
    I agree doing K21/turn signals taps into the relay should be done together. just remove the entire lower dash and dismount the ECU. Saved so much time.
    Replace the new mirrors with your originals as their reflections are inverted as well.
    Buy a cheap multiplex controller from japan to take the folding controller PCB and buttons and transfer to your own.

    Regarding taping wires together to route them easier:

    In my case, I actually pulled the door harnesses, unwrapped them, added the new wires, and taped them back together again. And for crossing the dash, I put the new wires into braided wire loom, then ran that alongside the main dash harness and secured it to it with zip ties. Made for a super neat finished job, but the effort vs. result means I wouldn't recommend it to any but the most OCD-types.

    Also, tesa tape for the win.
