I'm considering getting upgrading to a newer vehicle once my son gets his driver's license, the idea being he'll inherit our 2015 at that time hopefully (still a year and a half to go though). When I started looking at what is available now for hybrids it seems there's not really anything that checks all the boxes the way our 2015 does. The new Prius is way too small and cramped so that is out of the question. The Camry is definitely nice, but not sure I'd want to spend over $40k and also not sure I could go back to not having a hatchback. It seems the closest new hybrid cars come to our 2015 (as far as interior volume, comfort, cargo space and not being a Kia or a Hyundai) would be the Corolla Cross Hybrid or the Honda Civic hatchback hybrid. The problem for me with the Corolla Cross is that the gas mileage is horrendous (I do mostly highway driving and in the winter it's 38mpg rating will mean I will be down to 30-32mpg) so that leaves the Honda Civic. Has anyone had the chance to take one of these out for a spin? If so what did you think? The other option I'm looking into would be getting a used 2022 Prius Limited. If you had to choose between the Corolla Cross, Camry, Honda Civic or the 2022 Prius Limited, what would you choose and why?

My wife went from our 2010 Prius to a 2019 Rav4 hybrid and now settled with a 2022 Venza. The difference between the 3rd Gen prius and the Venza will be night and day. And the venza is roomier, quiet, and has plenty of room. The current Rav4 hybrid is good but is also noisy like the Prius and it doesn't have a lot of the convenience features that comes with the Venza, at no extra cost.

    Easy-Peasy.
    Camry.

Actually I wouldn't get ANY of those three, but the Camry is more likely to have been adult driven in a previous life, and it's a REAL mid-size car instead of a compact car cosplaying a midsize car (it has a trunk.)

    Corolla, Camry, Prius.
    It's like Taco Bell.
It's all the same thing - they just re-arrange the components a little differently from car to car.

The G4 Prius 'limited' is just an up-optioned Prius.
Paying for yesterday's options at today's prices.
It may be 'the better car' but the cost delta is high for what you get.
I might be tempted by a gently used G4 base.
It may be the 'ugly duckling' of the Priuses but the reliability is fairly good.

    Good Luck!

You get the car you like. And pay $30,000 and up for it.
You won't find anything like the Prius in newer cars. As with any car.

I’d like a reasonably roomy hatch, with a spare tire, and heat/vent system that can be adjusted without going off-road.

the RAV4’s got two outa three, but I’m not enthralled with the Crossover Utility Vehicle configuration.

Always puts me in mind of:

I got a 2019 Accord Hybrid a while back and I really like it. Our teenager is driving the Prius now. The HAH gets nearly the same mileage as our Prius for the same drive. But it does it much more comfortably.

I like Honda's hybrid system a lot. But for mostly highway, Toyota might be a better pick.

You might consider a Lexus ES300h or an Avalon if you are open to larger cars and you like highway comfort. I know it's not a Prius...

Love my 2025 Rav4 Hybrid. It's our family travel car now after selling a minivan.

For commuting I still use the Prius, but I've got my long-term eyes on a Honda HR-V. Man I love the look of that car, and perfect size for my needs... but no hybrid is drawback.

My wife got a 2024 camry hybrid SE and the ride is so much more comfortable and quiet compared to the Prius. I love driving a car that can get up to speed quickly and not feel like it’s about to blow up lol. Eventually I’m going to replace my 2012 Prius but I’m going back and forth between the new Rav4 and Corolla cross hybrid.

My suggestion is you keep an eye out for a high mileage Gen3 Plugin Prius that's in super good condition but has a worn out battery and engine, then buy this Lithium upgrade pack to double your EV range: 2012 - 2015 Toyota Prius plug-in Lithium battery pack; NexPower Energy and get that and high performance engine rebuild put in via https://www.instagram.com/skimmilkhybrid/ so you have way more power and reliability than original Gen3 while also not giving up everything you like about your 2015. Drew is an incredible mechanic and his super reasonable prices will impress!

However in about 10 years a mint condition Gen5 Prius, which is the last Prius iteration they'll ever make will look way better than it does right now. That's because it takes a decade or so to figure out all the best mods... :)

I pulled out the rear seats and bench, a few more in the back, it’s 74lbs lighter now. Has more interior room and the Ac cools the hv battery quicker. Kept the spare tire though.
