Well 51-50 the BBB passed with several changes..it should now go back to the House for further voting with many amendments and items that were removed for it to pass. Not sure if the debate in the House will be more intense the second time around.
Republican Tullis said he would not vote yes because his state will lose $26 billion in healthcare coverage alone. The amount of losses across the board to everyone in this country except a handful of rich people is obscene. The claim that it is the worst legislation in American history isn't in any way based on hyperbole.
It's still gotta get through the house again. Of course the 'expurts' said that it probably would not get through the lower house the first time. meh. SSDD
Why clutter up the pancake house with this stuff? ^ feral raspberries btw, from back lane behind a residential property likely slated for demolition and commercial build.
Success of the tariff war with Canada? Sure glad I don't own stock in the employment market: On Wednesday, ADP data showed private employers unexpectedly cut 33,000 jobs in June. This marked the first month of job losses in the private sector since March 2023. Meanwhile, continuing filings for unemployment benefits recently hit their highest level in nearly four years. source: June jobs report expected to show hiring slowed while unemployment rate ticked higher Bob Wilson
What do you think is going to happen to them when the debt bomb goes off? Whether it's the Inflation Reduction Act, or the BBB the result is going to be the same - am I right? History books are written by the nations that WIN wars - and nobody as yet answered my question about how a nation with a California-style economy in terms of taxes and living expenses can afford to build cars and send them to America at a profit. (Maybe it's because they do not allow some of OUR products in without a 200% tariff? ) The US and Canada share the world's largest contiguous border. We can keep fish-slapping each other with news clippings that support each other's opposing points of view but one thing is for certain - the US and Canada WILL keep trading. Sometimes? Even punches.
More details on overall jobs: US economy adds 147,000 jobs in June, surpassing expectations amid Trump trade war | US unemployment and employment data | The Guardian The US economy added 147,000 jobs in June, . . . . . . the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The unemployment rate actually decreased to 4.1%, down from 4.2% in May. Job gains were seen in state government and healthcare, which saw increases of 47,000 and 39,000 jobs, respectively. Meanwhile, federal government job losses continued, with another 7,000 roles down in May, . . . the federal government has been 69,000 since January. . . . New data had shown employers showing signs of hesitancy. Payroll firm ADP found that the private sector lost 33,000 jobs in June, far below the 100,000 increase that was expected, and the first decrease since March 2023. . . . “Though layoffs continue to be rare, a hesitancy to hire and a reluctance to replace departing workers led to job losses last month,” said Nela Richardson, chief economist at ADP, in a statement. A "one-two punch," the Federal workers disappear into a shrinking, private jobs market. Of course they could just become State and medical workers: The sociopath in Chief is hunting down both of the above: One to solicit grift 'donations' One to expel from our country Bob Wilson
Yeah; it will be one Big Beautiful Bill for the MAGA red states. It will be big and beautiful when they get their local and state tax bills.
meh. Another POTUS. Another Trillion dollar spending bill backed by only ONE party.....same initials even. Build Back Better Act - Wikipedia The 'Pubs said that the IRA (yet ANOTHER Trillion dollar spending bill backed by only ONE party!!!) would wreck the economy! They were wrong. It only gave us runaway inflation, a dependence on tax kickbacks for wealthy homeowners' solar and BEVs and 'dinged' the economy for 4 years. -------- The only local bills I get are for water, sewer, and garbage removal......and I can zero those out by moving back to to the county. State taxes??!! Yeah, like my military retirement checks??? .....oh wait. My state doesn't tax those. Property taxes???....people in adult states are not always exempt from property taxes entirely, but they may be eligible for significant homestead exemptions. MY taxes are close enough to zero that I don't really worry about them. That's a 'rich people problem' and aren't THEY supposed to be paying their fair share?? SOME states already do NOT tax SS payments. or food..... I'm not a fan of the bill either - but it will actually save my taxes from going up several thousands and the enhanced standard deduction for seniors might eliminate my income tax burden entirely since my spouse does not work and I'm in the 'under $150,000' bracket. Not counting on ANYTHING from this bill because Trump is a better huckster and con artist than the Bidens - but I might be pleasantly surprised.
