Nah. Bacon and cider - plus a basement entrance. Yellerjacket traps can really cut down the number of the little nasties - without hurting the more innocent pollinators. MANY MANY can be home made with a little instruction from the YouTubes.
Yep, see the pix I posted in post #1. I later gave instructions on how to build after someone asked. Very simple and only attracts yellowjackets with an occassional "fly." At the moment I have a store bought pheromone trap out. Also only trap yellowjackets with occassional flies. In four days, 12 yellowjackets. Again, early in the season. Ask how many in late August.
have another nest in the celing of the barn overhang. a small opening in the trim, they were going in and out. tried to spray it last night, but it was hard to see and aim with the flashlight. bees still there today, so i'll have another go tonight. iwouldn't care, but they are right next to the barn door, and very aggressive when you go in or out.
When they are close like your door, do not take chances. Get rid of them. Never know. As we age, things change. No real problem being stung at age 40 can change to life-threatening reaction at age 42. Suffocating in 3 minutes, no fun. Need a headlamp. Come in handy during late night floods, also. We keep two next to the bed and "cheaper" Energizer/Eveready types in each car -- they are not as robust, but are small and fit easily in whatever compartment we throw them. Of course, it's a rare couple of months when we don't lose power for a few hours and I don't like falling over dogs in the dark.. kris https://www.backcountry.com/b/black-diamond-astro-300-headlamp? PS: I USED TO keep a small waterproof flashlight in my old Tercel, but one night had a flat while alone. Hard to see with my hands full of tire and ended up with the flashlight between my teeth. Bought headlamp for car soon after.
