"Is web.archive.org accessible where you are?"

Ho ho ho, No. But yes, if I VPN-ed, but choosing not. The vast amount of 'internet' available is satisfactory, until/unless I lose access to Science Journals. Then it's VPN for sure.

Truly putting these massive server farms through their paces. No wonder the electric grid is so overtaxed.

My understanding of viral parasitism was improved by videos by David Baltimore on iBiology.

Their actual website seems inaccessible just now, but look on youtube for them. I get them via a domestic version called bilibili, but that's not important :)

Idea here is that readers interested in variety of viral parasitism will find Baltimore's videos informative and not more technical than necessary.

The difference is the existence of evidence. Not who says it.

@bisco that is a question worth thinking about. The following maybe be overstated, or a reflection on what I've seen where I've been. Here it is anyway.

Chinese medicine has deep roots in traditional medicine, which includes ooga-booga shamanism as well as empirical searching for medicines/chemicals that 'appear to work'. Without mechanistic understanding in many cases. Second, their COVID vaccine development and rollout was, um, not the fastest. More things than hydroxychloroquine were probably examined, and if not eventually published it is because they did not pan out.

American medicine was on the verge of mRNA vaccines and expansion of specific antivirals, right at hinge of COVID expansion. Attending to the newest and shiniest things was 'in'. Adequately sized studies of (off-label) things that might work were 'out'.

If some among readers buy all that, we can move on to think about an overall benefit of having both approaches. Y'know complementarity. Kumbaya.

    ooga-booga - Made me laugh
    - & I totally get it

It reminds me of the now accepted C diff cure. Shoving poop up the back side.
    & it works!
    Who figured that out.

That one isn't even all that ooga-booga. In a situation where C. diff are getting frisky because antibiotics have clobbered the populations of the usual flora that usually outcompete them, the idea (nearly) suggests itself.

For history of medicine ‘down there’ see:

    https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3223289/

    Paragraph of interest begins thus:

“The idea of FMT has parallels in the veterinary world, where the practice of transfaunation has been used for centuries to treat ruminants with severe ruminal acidosis and other gastrointestinal disorders and for the treatment of equine diarrhea.”

Transfaunation is my word of the day.

Yet...medical science still has not provided a prophylactic, cure or method to stop the spread SAR-CoV-2 outside of isolation.

I had somehow always expected gut microbes to be called fauna, and was surprised when I found myself reading papers calling them flora. People say fauna too, eh?
