In NC and my Basic Prius 2011 has a passenger window that only goes up from pass side & down from driver's. Needs new brakes. Otherwise good; any idea what I should value it at? Around 165k
I don't know should you? I'd be looking to give you $2,500 or less for the vehicle I mean I wouldn't want it personally I don't think CarMax really I terestedcrither unless you buying something . They offered 4k for my 12 Volt w 46K on it. Needless to say it's right here driving 60 miles a day . Never been touched or serviced since it left the factory in 12 ESSENTIALLY the cars free to sit n drive whenever.
That "window only goes up/down from driver's side" is -- surprisingly -- a fault in the driver's side switch unit. I purchased a replacement unit thinking I'd do the work myself but just didn't have the time. Dealer labor charge $161. You can do a Kelly Blue Book or other Internet search to get a rough idea of the real value. CarMax will pay you substantially less. It is up to you to decide whether it is worth a private sale versus the convenience of CarMax and the whole process taking an hour.
You should have taken the 4k. I wouldn't give you 1k for a car with 46k miles that's never been touched or serviced since it left the factory ..........
A 3rd gen, for sale, with 165k miles: those are 3 red flags, at least for me. If I was shopping cars, I'd pay $500~1000 tops, and the next morning be wrenching the wipers/cowl off, running a borescope into the combustion chambers, with cooling system pressurized. It's got a deserved reputation, for neglected EGR system and subsequent head gasket failure, that's just how it is.
It was my brother's car it was the car that Obama stood next to in front of the White House talking about I like these plug-in hybrids my brother runs a think tank in DC had a contract W GM how he got the car. It's only been driven about 200 miles on ice it's whole life until me. Every time he called the dealer to find out if it needed to be serviced or anything had to be done they always said 3K on ice change oil . No software updates as of 2024 wen I took car according to oursman Chevy in MD. I just did brakes the other day . Years old but still looked new .. so new pads all way round. Not really much to touch.
I think the real question is what is Carmax willing to pay... I suspect when it comes to how they do business what you value your car at is not relevant unless its stupid low. As in I see what they're doing here. In all price negotiations the first person to come up with the price is in a weaker position then the 2nd person making the counter-offer.
