I think everyone cares to a degree, but the question is if they care more about others than filling their pockets. Personally I wouldn't judge them individually. When all prices keep going up and wages don't some of that might be that current generations are lazier than previous, but it also can be the rich finding ways to make things more expensive and pay less to their workers at the same time.

While true, if it makes a house too expensive then it makes a house too expensive. It doesn't matter how good a house or car is, if a person can't afford it, they can't afford it.

Keep in mind that some things have both a negative and a positive effect in overall price. Houses may have more stuff on them, but they also may be smaller, so less materials. They also may be more efficient, making that heating bill easier than in generations past with lack of insulation and efficient heating systems.

But I don't think that housing components are the main cause of housing price increases. Old houses without all those modern things are also very expensive. I'm looking at an old condo with resistive heat and hardly any insulation and single pane windows, and it will be around $3,000 per month.

 

Divorce is at an all time high too. When that happens, then how do you pay for the mortgage?

Ironically, the people I've seen get divorced is usually in part from not spending time together as each has a side gig and spend all of their time working harder instead of having some family time.

 

90% of divorces are initiated by the woman, so the "enough time together" may be a small factor, but there's plenty of other scenarios there we shouldn't discuss here.

 

It seems like a big factor to me, as the man is usually the one out late at night still working, and the wife is left alone that whole time. That wouldn't happen as much if people didn't need to work two full time jobs to qualify for a house.

And a lot of times it isn't the unfaithful spouse situation, but rather the "you're never here to help out and spend time with the kids" situation.

It's the female who gets bored of the guy due to rising social media pressure to find a taller, richer more high value man and of course the dark disparity of modern Feminism that ruins marriages. Again, like High Demand/High Supply in which you conceded to..this is the post apocolyptic post covid world simulation now and it defies natural logic.

I don't know what the statistics are. All I know are the cases I've personally seen, the woman rightfully complained of being left to take care of their autistic daughter by herself as the guy worked night and day, or the guy was away for extended periods and was the one that eventually became unfaithful, or the guy was so fixed on getting a house he sent his wife and kids to live with her mother-in-law that resulted in a disaster. And at any rate, if a woman had her man around she's likely to not have as much time to be on social media anyway.

And no, a high demand and high supply market does not exist. Covid had only accelerated trends that were already headed in this direction. So we reached what 2025 was going to be like back in 2020.

Go get your wife pregnant with her first child, and then take her out of a nice apartment and stick her in with her bickering mother-in-law in a tiny, old mobile home with no A/C so they can fight and scream at each other for 5 years (I should know, they lived literally two doors down from me) while you move away to work on your dream house and then come back here to stereotype your wife as a feminist when she decides enough is enough.

You didn't prove anything. Economics 101: supply vs. demand, not supply over here and demand over there. Yes, the economy is still unsettled and car manufacturers tried getting as many cars as they could over into the USA before tariffs went into effect. But that doesn't mean we've entered into some twilight zone where we have both high supply and demand, whatever that's supposed to mean. The cost to build cars will likely go up so manufacturers will likely cut back which will cause the current oversupply to wean down under current demand so eventually prices will go up and as a result the demand for new cars will go down. So what do we actually have? A low supply high demand market, unless someone figures out how to build cheap cars in the USA quickly to keep those supply levels up.

If we truly have a high supply market then, by definition, demand would be going down and prices would eventually do the same. If we truly have a high demand market then eventually don't would be eaten up and prices would go up.

Can supply and demand go up together? Yes, but that doesn't result in what economists world call a high demand and high supply economy. Take the iPhone as an example. At first there was little supply and little demand. Do we now live in a high supply and high demand iPhone economy? No. The new levels are the new norm. If supply goes up then prices will go down. If demand goes up the process will go up. If both move, then we just end up with whatever price that market dictates.

Oh man! They're selling more blenders than in 1952 and they cost a lot more! I guess we'll have a high supply and high demand market for blenders for all eternity!

 

I don't make the rules, I just report them. You can ignore facts if you wish and go on living in your own bubble of reality.

 

Hey! I could be wrong. I just can't understand how a law says one thing is vs. another and then claiming that there the law doesn't really exist without acknowledging that we're in a transition phase.

Also, blaming people on what seems to me to be stereotypes that don't address what I see sr real problem also doesn't make sense to me.

But then again, I can be wrong.

 

I wonder if you might have remembered something more like a cut-and-dried law than I do.

I'm pretty sure the treatment of supply and demand in my econ text was at least one full chapter, with a lot of graphs, and cases to consider, and "how well does this model explain X situation"-type questions. It didn't really boil down to something tidy enough to recite as catechism.

 

Probably. And admittedly, as far as what the car economy is like we all probably have similar views. The problem may be we use different words to define it. I call it unsettled.

 

Cars have always been too expensive relative to the value of the dollar and income level of working folks.
