Really. I'm not kidding. Trump will provide the $5 billion allotted to NEVI (National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure) for building new public EV charging stations.

I'm not sure if this is some sort of goodwill, or just being forced to do something congress had previously approved of. Let's hope it's the former, not the latter.

""President Joe Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in November 2021, allocating $7.5 billion for electric vehicle charging. Of this, $5 billion is dedicated to building a network of chargers along major highways, called the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program.

While appearing on CBS News' Face the Nation on Sunday (May 2024), host Margaret Brennan asked Buttigieg, "The Federal Highway Administration says only seven or eight charging stations have been produced with a $7.5 billion investment that taxpayers made back in 2021. Why isn't that happening more quickly?"

Buttigieg responded: "So the president's goal is to have half a million chargers up by the end of this decade.""

To save the click, he's being forced by the courts to enact the law passed during Biden's administration for the funding.
    The rest of Buttigieg's comment.
"Now, in order to do a charger, it's more than just plunking a small device into the ground. There's utility work and this is also a new category of federal investment. But we've been working with each of the 50 states, every one of them is getting formula dollars to do this work."

Yep, it takes time to set up the accounting and auditing for a nationwide program. Don't want any mistakes made, lose any of those funds, or run afoul of an individual state's rules for high power electrical equipment. Then putting in a high speed DC charger along an empty highway isn't as easy as swapping out an outlet.

Trump's actions in trying to cancel the $5 billion has delayed that effort, if not set it back some time.

During his first term, Congress allocated $41 Billion to hurricane relief for Puerto Rico. He stopped the relief funding after $11 Billion, then claimed he had given them $91 Billion. (Trump Misleads on Aid to Puerto Rico - FactCheck.org)

It's not the only time he did something like that, either. There's no way he doesn't pull the funding after only a fraction has been spent, then go on to claim some other made-up number was spent later on.

I believe that the court stepped in on his executive over reach. He seems to be ignoring the courts most of the time, so I can see him delaying again or him packing the courts. I guess if he takes enough bribes from UAE, Quatar, and Saudi Arabia he may want to kill the plug-in in america, but $5B won't do it.

Watched a video today from a Harvard Professor discussing "The happiest people in the world do these four things every day".

He prefaced his conversation with this observation - they do not get overly involved in politics and limit their exposure - partaking in news with discretion and moderation.

Excellent advice - I think there are a lot of very unhappy/unbalanced individuals posting here.
He also observed polite people are absolutely happier than others.

This non partisan video might be well worth watching for people interested in self reflection:

The happiest people do these four things every day, says professor
