It depends on what you consider equivalent and if you include maintenance costs. Tesla model Y (one of the best selling vehicles in the world) is quite cost competitive with similar crossovers and less expensive than the luxury ones. Model Y has lost a lot of market share because of the CEOs politics not because of the vehicle. Costs continue to go down, but tesla will likely eat a little profit margin when the EV incentives end in september in the US. Ford and GM have not been able to make a plug-in profitable but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Ford should have used tesla or rivian to do the electronics in the F150

I saw a bz4x driving down my little street today. Toyota has its work cut out for it, but I'm sure they can follow. The mustang mach E really cost ford too much compared to the tesla and hyundai competition to price it right without incentives. IMHO incentives were too high, but removing them early hurts ford and gm versus the chinese, hyundai/kia and tesla.

agreed. equivalency is in the eye of the beholder. but even if someone believed a tesla is equivalent to a similarly priced gasser, that would not be a reason to buy one.
