All I really need to do, at least short term, is bookmark one previous occasion, say the post above, then post the web address from then on. I'll do that right now. (y)

Thanks for your reply. I probably gor the whole EGR system cleaned. Coolant level is fine ot is not reduced.
Someone told me to get injectors cleaned. Going to do that now with injector cleaner probably STP or LiquiMoli.
    Do you suggest injectors cleaning?

Use the entire can.... Install on a low tank then fill up.... worked great in my v.
Get new plugs....the new updated (heat range) stock plugs.....the real ones are denso. kinda pricey...

Wish I had known about the EGR / head gasket / OCC a few years ago. I've been driving for a few months with EGR code firing and clearing (about 50/50). Definitely had oil in the throttle body. Probably in the other 2010 also, they both use a lot of oil, no leaks.
Fighting a TB motor control circuit low code right now. TB has correct resistance. Trying to find the other end of the wires to check continuity before I replace the ECU (wherever that is...)

Careful though, don’t jump to conclusions. The PCV system invariably moves an oleo of oil/water/gas from crankcase to intake manifold, but not enough to account for excessive oil consumption, nor the EGR’s propensity to carbon-up.

I suspect the low-friction piston rings, and perhaps piston design, for the oil consumption, and inadequate EGR design, compounded by inadequate testing of the design, for the head gasket failures.

The car was telling you there was an issue, and you ignored it?
Have you resolved the egr issue? Or are you going to start throwing parts on the car?

There's more than one EGR code. Which were you getting?

Every Prius has that, back to the first generation, collecting in normal operation. If you clean it out, your Prius just feels embarrassed and out-of-place around its peers until it collects again.

Good to know about the oil. I have a lot of catching up to do on getting to know these things.

    The code is:
P0401 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected

Yeah, I'm old, tired, broke and DoorDash 80 hrs/wk, and it's been way too hot to do anything outside.
If the code had stayed on, I would have had to gird up my loins, but it kept going off, so I assumed that it was on the ragged edge and I could postpone dealing with it.
The car is down for a throttle motor circuit low, probably the ECM, as the motor is 120% of max resistance (I think), and the wiring harness has continuity. I also have an ABS, headlight and hybrid system errors, but the later seems tied to the throttle issue.
    Priorities are:
    fix throttle
then EGR, headlight and ABS, in that order.
But I might swap the battery pack with my backup 2010, as its only issue is the battery pack.

More often that is caused by a coil pack giving out low voltage. Start by pulling codes. Standard operating procedure to diagnose all problems. Always start there. And don't use a cheap scanner. You need pending codes too. So use techstream or hand this job to a qualified shop
