I bought a spare wheel and tire over a year ago but have yet to take any long road trips and didn’t like keeping it in the rear cargo area. With an upcoming road trip coming I wanted a way to mount the spare tire and wheel to my Thule Caprock. After working out a couple of problems for example a spare tire cover flapping in the wind I think I finally have it ready to go for my upcoming 400 mile drive. Here is the parts I used and a picture. 1. Front Runner Spare wheel clamp 2. 42611-OR271 Toyota 17x4 5x114.3 +10 Alloy Wheel 3. Continental sContact 115/95R17 (tires run on my Prius Prime are 205/55R17 about 3% smaller than stock 4. Coverstore Spare Tire Cover WeatherTite Max Black a23-26" DIA x 9D (Inches) 5. Likelock X1 U bike lock 6. Black ratchet Strap to secure cover Here is a pic.
Is that a roof rack from Toyota for Prius? When I bought my Prius in 2024, they told me they didn't have any rack for the Prius.
They'll probably come back to elaborate, but the quick version is that it's a roof rack for a gen4 Prius* that's been slightly modified to work on a gen5. There's still no official roof rack for a gen5. They made a thread about buying it and what they did to make it work. You should be able to hunt for it. edit: Here it is: Genuine Toyota removable cross bars | PriusChat *it was mistakenly listed as being compatible with the 2024 on Toyota's website, which is why the OP bought it
I wrote about this on this thread. Genuine Toyota removable cross bars | PriusChat In summary they work but to maximize the bar spread to mount the Thule Caprock I needed to cut of the pins with a Dremel tool. Not very difficult. If I remember correctly I also cut a little depth off of the pads with a razor blade that the rack sits on. I have driven a couple of thousand miles with them on without any issue.
