OEM spare tire install

I have to find a way to do this with my LE. The wife is from Minot. We met when I was up there for a year in the Air Force. In what part of North Dakota do you live?

 

Did you buy new foam pieces? I was thinking that I'd just cut what I have, but it sounds like that won't work well. If you ordered the foam, was it the parts that I see on Hammersmith's list?

 

Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I bought the foam that was on Hammersmith's list and it was expensive. I'm not too keen on the fit of the new foam with the old deck board (it "floats" and the foam shows, so I may have to spring $236 to get it through Lewis. Did you purchase the foam and other parts by now?

 

If you want everything to fit nicely in the back, you may want to reconsider modifying your own foam. My deck height was raised a few inches and I replaced the trim piece at the back of the car to accommodate the taller foam. I would assume the spare wheel/tire would be higher than the stock (cut) foam if you added the carrier to the deck floor.

 

My Mazda MX-5 had 2 of them. One is for the temporary spare. The other is for the full size to hold it down in the trunk. I took that one to use in the Prius. If my flat full size isn't bolted down in the trunk while I take it to get it fixed or replaced - that's ok.

 

Just want to confirm that this also applies to a 2024 LE AWD as well.

I didn't see it in the thread or missed it, but since the floor will be 3"+ higher, can you just use the stock foam deck floor (cut out around the spare) and put 3" of foam on top of it?

 

Before I go and buy all these, since you guys are all awesome and helpful:

I have a 2025 limited. If I buy the parts in this list:

1- will it fit for the limited trim?
2- will everything line up at the same height as folded seats?

And one last question. I have the rubber all weather mat that looks like a square (as opposed to one that fills the entire cargo area). Would that also still work?

 

2026 Prius Limited AWD OEM spare tire/wheel install completed earlier today. Install took about 20 minutes.
Perfect fit using the listed parts in the original article in this thread.

Bought the temporary spare tire from Walmart. Paid ~$14 to a local tire store to mount the temporary spare tire on a new OEM wheel.
The spare wheel rim, three OEM foam parts, metal cover bracket, 3 nuts, and long bolt with cap to secure the complete wheel were ordered with the car from a Houston TX Toyota dealership.
A new/unused OEM Prius Prime jack kit was purchased from an online used parts supplier.
This seller was less expensive as compared to purchasing a new jack kit from a Toyota dealership.

I had a 4-way lug nut wrench and put that in the car as well.

 

While I don't have my LE FWD Prius yet, I've acquired the donut and jack. Since I very rarely use the back seats for passengers, I plan on putting the donut behind one of the front seats. I'd rather not lose the storage space in the hatch are. Plus, there's no additional cost or labor, lol. That's my current thinking anyway.

 

@Hammersmith, do you have more precise measurements for the foam blocks? (I work in both metric and US customary units) Or is 2.0"x2.0"x0.75" and 2.30"x2.30"x1.25" close enough? The photos in post #362 are too angled to get precise measurements. Others, please feel free to chime in.

 

As far as I know, this conversion works for all Prius models except plug-ins. You should ask Hammersmith for details.

I wouldn't cut out your original foam to try to make this conversion work. All of the pieces called out here work together as the manufacturer intended (a spare tire kit was included in this vehicle by Toyota in other markets). It's a lot of money to spend, but if you want things to fit and function as intended, you'll need to shell out the dough and buy all of the factory parts to make it happen.
