Cracked Trunk Trim Piece - Not Warranty Covered?

Mine cracked about 6 months after I bought the car. There was no warranty on it at first, but when I showed them that it was a big issue online, they agreed to cover it.

 

If your dealer refuses, check with another dealer.

I found about 6 good photos of cracked trim and created a power point slide. I took the printed page to the dealer, and they got Toyota to pay for the repair under warranty. The Toyota regional contact was unaware of the issue, the dealer is going to provide my old trim to the regional office to investigate

The attached PDF shows 6 different cars with cracked trim in the same area.

 

Is this still a thing on new cars, or has the part been re-designed?

 

I’m wondering as well. I use my cargo area almost daily and haven’t had an issue but everything I shut on this car except the hood sounds like it could snap or crack at any moment. Light weight plastic.

 

Well after a bunch of back and forth, a replacement part that was also damaged, and some pleading, my dealer replaced the trim under warranty! Woo hoo! Hope it doesn't break again.
