Steering wheel cover

I'm waiting on mine.
Just recently I tried putting on a sew-up leather cover on a Crosstrek. Couldn't make it work, I felt, with all the smart features of the the steering wheel.
I had a 2000 VW beetle that I put a sew up one on and it was great.
For the Crosstrek, wound up getting a slip on 'leather' cover, ie, no sewing. She likes it.
You have to get the right size. Maybe you can exchange it? They're not that expensive.

 

+1 to getting the right size, this cover from Amazon was thin enough at the edges to tuck under the plastic bits of our 2025 Toyota Crown Signia steering wheel. FYI, the cover comes with thread to sew the cover on, but I don't use it because it is made of a slick synthetic material. I get a waxed thread that is thicker and easier to use.

The Signia has a factory real leather steering wheel already, but we prefer a nice, thick steering wheel.

That was a marvelous steering wheel job you did. Was that a custom-made steering wheel cover because I see that there were bulging areas at 2 & 10 o'clock position and then the cover conforms to the bottom spoke?

 

Nope, off-the-shelf cover, linked in previous post.

The bulged areas at 10 and 2 aren't completely covered, there's a slight gap between the edges.

As far as the bottom of the wheel, the cover is tucked under the plastic trim with a spatula type trim tool. The cover is tied off directly adjacent to the bottom spoke, then the lacing continues on around the steering wheel.

 

I might give it a try when I get the car!

I just now clicked the link to the steering wheel cover. That's the same one I got, but different size, that I gave up on my Crosstrek attempt. I like what a saw though, quality wise.

 

Yeah, I put the same covers on my two son's 2017 Subaru Imprezas, one hatchback and one sedan.

At the time, I did not try to tuck the covers under the plastic pieces on the steering wheel, so I went over them. Doesn't look as good as the one I put on the Toyota Crown Signia.

I'm showing the cover I put on a 2016 Corolla as well. I have a closeup shot of the gap at the 10-o'clock position.

 

I just have to say that I absolutely love the feel of the Toyota material and would never put a cover over it. But different people have different preferences and there's nothing wrong with that.

The material is the same in all models. The only differences between trims/models is that the bottom trims(LE & SE) don't have heating elements, and the HEV models(LE, XLE & LTD) don't have capacitive touch sensors and the control module. Externally, they're all identical.

It's not real leather, but it feels like a super-smooth leather-like surface. It's not hard plastic or anything. Best feeling steering wheel I've ever used(including a couple leather Mercedes wheels from many years back).

Just wait until you get yours and give it a feel before you commit to a cover. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't.

I love how the cover's ad in Amazon hints that it might be fun spending 2 hours (their estimate), sewing the thing on.
I did it once, on my VW, and I would not say it was fun.
