I won't be "Jonesing" for this because of what I captured from Tesla.com: Used 2024 Model 3 are listed as low as $27,000 which has HW 4.0 and LiFePO battery. My 2019 weight, EPA reported, is 3,800 lbs but I've already replaced the rims and tires with lighter, lower resistance tires. The 41 lbs weight reduction after 6 years, GIVE ME A BREAK! My 2019 peak rate is 178 kW but I'm already finding 10-20 minute charge sessions perfectly fine. First stop for a bathroom and snack sack. Then drive to near-by SuperCharger and back on the road again,. Will need to see the charge curve but right now, this does not "crank my tractor." One good piece of news is the speed for calculating the charge rate: My Prius days taught that 63 mph gives EPA equivalent efficiency. Citing 65 mph is an honest benchmark speed, not the BS "70 mph" used by others. Bob Wilson
Moving van trucks and some trucking companies pretty well run at 65 mph. I use them as cover so following traffic passes us both. Bob Wilson
Why, after all the upgrades, are you thinking of buying a replacement? If I had that much trouble with a car I'd never buy that brand again. Nissan - rusted Honda - rusted Acura - transmission failure Honda - fine BMW -rusted Ford - rusted GM - rusted VW - owned 3. Actually OK in the 70s and 80s. Fun car in the 90s. Dieselgate. Chrysler blown motor at 100k miles Porsche - owned 3. One rusted at 2 years and sold. One I totaled. One I sold. No local service. And I'm beyond the sports car want ... or maybe not. But $120k new.. Alfa - owned 2. Back in the 60s. Where would I get service? are all suspect to me based on past experiences. Granted many of these were 20 to 40 years or more ago. That leaves the Korean brands and some of the US EV brands. And Mazda. Owned 2 ... my boys never did learn to properly maintain cars. And my last 3 have been Toyota. All fine. Own 2 now. Both batteries guaranteed to 10 years or 150k miles. Now have 4 and 6 more years. And neither car has even 44k miles. Planning to move in a year and not sure where we move to will allow charger installation. I normally sell at 7 years or 70k. Not driving as long distances as I used to.
I'm replacing the 2017 BMW i3-REx and keeping the 2019 Model 3 as backup and experimental host. Things that work on the 2019 can migrate to the 2024. Bob Wilson
