Hello, I have a XLE on order and I have a question. Does my Prius come with rear automatic braking? I believe it has front auto braking but not sure about the rear. The salesman said it did but I’m not sure he’s right. Can someone clear this up for me?

Hi. I'm waiting on an LE and was curious.
It sounds like you're looking for: "Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking (PA w/AB) *"
Per the Toyota web page, it looks like the XLE has it, but not the LE, alas.

If I recall correctly, no-one has ever found an LE without that "available" option.

    You're correct.

I just looked at my build sheet and it does have that $35 option. $319 for floor mats, though? Outrageous. :)

Thanks for the responses….What I’m asking and probably didn’t explain myself fully is……if I back my 2026 Prius XLE up and it gets close to an object will the car automatically brake so it doesn’t hit whatever is behind me?

    It's a '26, approaching the Panama canal.

The next question is what does $1,195 get you? Lol.

Ok …..sorry for all the posts but I did a little more checking and it looks like it is available as an option as VelvetFoot said.

So that leads me to ask another question…can the Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking be added as a software update since all of the sensors are already on the car?

    Yes.

No-one can say, because no-one's ever had a car with it not fitted. It's standard on the XLE, and always fitted to the LE despite being "available".

From what I read it’s a $35 option….not standard equipment but I could be wrong

Can you post a link that states it’s standard on the XLE?

No, as others said, it is standard (not optional) on all Gen 5 Prius HEV/PHEV vehicles that have been made, regardless of whether it is shown on the window sticker or vehicle specs or not.

I have it on my Gen 4 Prius Prime Limited PHEV, and it automatically braked while reversing in several occasions. So, it works.

Toyota’s Prius build page states on the LE it’s a $35.00 option. So you saying their official site is wrong?

How can you state that so definitively? Do you have proof of an LE or SE without the $35 option that still has F/R Park Assist w/ Auto Breaking or are you just making assumptions?

Correct. Many LEs/SEs were sold without that option, but they all had the parking sensors.
There has been no report of any LE/SE that came without that option and didn’t have the parking sensors.

My best guess is that Toyota never sourced bumper covers without holes for Gen 5, and they had to install parking sensors on all cars as a result, regardless of the option. Originally, the $35 option, which is silly, given how expensive these sensors are and how difficult to calibrate them is, was omitted on the window sticker despite the cars having the parking sensors, but chances are that all LEs/SEs these days have this option included on the window sticker as well.

It appears to be more than just software. The basic sensors are the same, but I'm seeing 3 different part numbers for the clearance warning computer.

    It appears like:
    89340-47100 - LE/SE - without park assist?
89340-47160 - all trims - with park assist and auto braking?
89340-47170 - LTD w/ Panoramic View Monitor and Advanced Park(auto park)

I'm seeing an LE without the $35 option coming to one of my local dealerships sometime in the next month. I can't guarantee anything, but I'll try to make a trip there after it comes in and see if I can get access to it for a couple minutes. If it still has park assist, it should have settings for it in the options menu. I'll look at the menu in my LTD first to confirm what options should be there to compare.

It's not sensors, it's the computer. (see my post above)

Can’t the sensors be installed but not activated unless one pays for the $35 option? Kind of like the digital key? The digital key is an option you pay $275 for the privilege of using it for 1 year and then it goes away without a subscription.

If I'm correct about the computer, it would be about $185(new) if you did the job yourself. You'd need the replacement computer and then install it on the passenger side inside the dash. I'm not seeing any different wiring harnesses listed between the LE with or without the parking assist, so it appears to be a straight swap without any additional wiring needed.

(I may have the part numbers for the computers reversed, so definitely don't order without some confirmation.)
