The only real advantage hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCVs) have over battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is refueling time. I can understand their appeal in Tokyo, where 99.9% of families don’t have the option to charge at home. However, once charging times drop to around 15 minutes for an 80% charge which will happen soon BEVs will make far more sense for most people, even in Tokyo. Plus, it wouldn’t be difficult to install Level 2 chargers in all parking garages and lots.
