    Apologies for late response...

Yep, as written that's the only sensible thing, when clear it's obvious... just move on. But what about when the row behind the item isn't empty, but a complete row of the disputed item? That's what happened to me... and why it were chafing my third point enough to post.

Wally's was infamous for this long before the wifi tags... but this were the first time I'd been refused a sale price, because of some employee's cock-up. And doesn't explain the idiocy of deeming the price tag of an item 'will be centered on where the item is most numerous'? Gimme a break, just asking for anyone to pull cash wrap droids off-station, to explain why.

But thanks for sharing a similar exp w/ Wally's ways. Not like they're going to fold if this veteran stops shopping there... but that's been cause for Wally policies since the beginning

Oh man -- reminds me of teaching how to ride a motorcycle, which I'd done 15 yrs before hanging up my gear for good...

So in general, agree 1000%. But there are (slight) caveats.

I try to give benefit of doubt whenever appropriate. Had seen my Boomer dad's adamant, violence-threatened 1960s-era drill-sergeant-like 'advice' for how to drive a car, have ~40% relevance in the age of EFI, radial tires, and disc brakes ('84 when I came of age)... plus tbbh, he didn't know crap about cars in the first place, just acted like he did (classic Asian upbringing :cautious:). So when speaking to late Millennials / early Zoomers re: motos, the state of the art'd drastically moved on since I'd stopped working for dealerships (and received regular mfr training and seat time)... so have to parse that against what they consider 'normal'. I found some of the things my father taught me to need an equal amt of retraining effort to unlearn, but some were timeless, at least until the 2010s (ex: learning to master feel on a manual transmission, w/ starts on an incline... & parallel parking is just as important).

Generational dissonance is a real thing, and shouldn't be cast aside carelessly when offering knowledge, I reckon. Those'd be my responsibilities, as a potential mentor.

But yeah -- I'd say 8 of 10 kids I'd tried to teach, felt my advice 'wasn't for them', manifesting in a variety of ways. Okay, show me what you know, then. <Fails>. After which, unless they ask how I'd do it at that point (w/ demo), I'd check out, and let them braille their way thru the first year (often, with a brand-new sportbike airteeth ). Confidence > competence, is something any mentor should be testing their charge against, throughout their journey; should be equal before the next step, ideally. Once they're ready to leave the nest, just keep my door open (y)

That is OK. Seeing your post lets us know there are still some sane people in the universe. Let the crazies alone in their mad house of noise.

    BTDT.

    Saw 127 in the sandbox.
What I tell people in the US to simulate this is to put on winter gear in July and stand over the A/C condenser (outside) unit, during summer months when the unit is running in a home owned by somebody suffering from menopause...or manopause.
I saw -20(*) once in the lower 48, but I'm smart enough to live where temps preceded by a 'minus' sign are a very VERY rare event.

(*) FREEDOM units - and ACTUAL temperatures - not these silly "feels like" temps.

I waived Toyota Connect on my new Prius.
I'm still getting the stupid pop-ups on the infotainment screen.

Only extreme for me was 114F in Yuma, AZ when I was in the Army many years ago.

On another note. While the seats in my new Prius LE are very comfortable, I don't think I'm totally enamored with the material. I'd think about pleather covers if they could be could good looking.

That would be like the 'old days', when your parents and their friends would put clear plastic covers on their sofas. I'm thinking now, put the covers on when the existing upholstery gets ratty.

Yep we've noticed how easy it is for the material in our two Prius to get stains on them. One trip with the dog and we have brown (dirt) marks on the back seat.
But the little minature wet-vac works good on them...and then I give them a spray of Scotchguard.

You have to be careful with seat covers these days...lots of our seats, also, contain air bags and you never want to block those.

This is not a beef, but I went to the local car show over the weekend.
The new BMWs and Audis have curved digital screens.
They look so much better than the grafted on usual appearance of screens.
Then again, also, one of those two had a fixed panoramic sunroof that dimmed electro-chemically.

California (& AZ & Nevada) desert seems to have a huge draw. These that people live in Bullhead city? Or laughlin? Yikes. What's up with that. Air temperature in the 120s & water temperature in the 50s. Water skiing & jumping in - bam - girly shrieks when you throw yourself into that huge temperature difference

    ^ That explains much.

Water temperatures in the 50s is why my area has some many drownings in the early to mid summer. It isn't just "girly shrieks", it is also cold water shock, involuntary gasping (causing inhaled water), hyperventilation, and vasoconstriction diverting blood flow away from arm and leg muscles to the body core, resulting in loss of movement.

I lived in the Palm Springs CA area for a decade.

I believe the hottest I remember was 121F, Give or take.

But 114F was common. I worked a strange shift as a firefighter and let me say, full turnouts and the desert do not mix. I am sure that now, nearly half a century later, the protective gear is much better.

I was there right when the misters became popular; they reduced heat about 25 degrees and made outdoor dining doable all summer.

Anyway, I wrote about how I ended up in the desert in another thread, so won't repeat. Also discussed my Datsun Roadster...

In that thread, Issac Zachary said goodbye to PC...BUT like many others, he could not bear to leave.:D

Ooh wow, a buncha tales from the desert :D Apologies, small-kind verbosity coming...

    --

Served w/ 3ID in DS, our Abrams / Bradleys were deployed there + support & logistics (*waves*). My Sioux tanker buddies said 130 in the open desert wasn't just common, wasn't even the hottest it got -- holy dogshite  Worse the further from the ocean... and those engagements were pretty far inland.

    --

I were unfortunate enough to exp 115F a few times in downtown Phoenix, when I worked security for the two Renaissance Towers 20+ yrs ago. Had to stand and observe in the outdoor courtyard between bldgs 45 mins per hour as required on day shift, in an effing polyester blazer & long-sleeve shirt / slacks, as our higher bosses (largely ex-military... which annoyed me) wouldn't allow anything less on middle mgmt. Was late July 2003... and defo hotter now. Allied arseblossoms... left AlliedBarton (now Allied Universal) later that year for similar crap, nuts...

    --

    Noooo, no pleatherrrr

Pro tip: Use Skechers seat covers in my LE, their Memory Foam model in grey, hopefully still sell them (edit: ah, they do on Amazon). Excellent for breathability, support & comfort, plus don't hold onto tomato sauce very much (yep, have my bowl of organic tofu chili in the car a few times a week ). Spritz of 409 to wet and paper towel dabs, golden... more gnarly spills, it's machine-washable. Cheap too, at least for a pair of front seats (~$50US)... ah, they finally wised up and offered the grey as a full set ($80US)... link

On the old Honda, got a set from Costco, called Type S Heather Wetsuit Covers, should fit the XW6#s just fine too. Made of wetsuit material, so not as breathable as the Skechers in hot weather, but impermeable to spills if that's more important (probably, for younger parents living in more temperate, 4-season climes).

    --

Can only speak for Phoenix Metro... but it's a draw, because still suuuper-cheap compared to SoCA.

I remember my good friend from work bought a house in Goodyear for $70K in 2004 -- that's a damned trailer these days. Split-level, 2500 sq ft, enclosed garage, and the usual Phoenix 'lawn' (pink clinkers rolled a few mins in a concrete mixer to bust off the sharp edges, then dumped onto your 250 sq ft space in front the house, in a field of clones). I couldn't believe it -- but that was the housing bubble.

Moved to Seattle later mid-decade... and a nice middle-class two-story, five-bedroom/ 2.5 bath / dbl enclosed garage w/ 3 acres in back cleared from the forest, was $125K in Poulsbo. Here in Maui County 2025, a 1500 sq ft dilapidated old plantation-era property anywhere near a decent neighborhood, is $1.5 MEELLION EFFING BUCKS. To start. SoCA is generations into that kind of real estate + all the local / state fees they dump on you for everything, as soon as cross the border o_O

I didn't have any problem with the delta betw. air and water temps, going skiiing on Lake Powell and Havasu (but did grow up spearfishing with my pops, 5am off the cliffs northwest Maui, 75 lbs soaking wet at 11yo). Maybe more of a delta when the sun's not directly overhead in afternoons, in open water? We were drinking & skinny-dipping in a private cove most of the time not skiing, so would've noticed if it felt dangerous. Not as much circulation there maybe, and the sun's rays heating murky and more-still water's upper layers. Nice memories of naked drunk fit people tho :p

Dollars to Donuts I bet the Abrams are air conditioned nowadays. Most likely for the electronics, not the humans.
