Hello, I'm planning on changing my rear brakes on my Gen 2. The instructions that I found here says "Lithium soap base glycol grease" and "High temperature grease". Can anyone confirm these the correct actual Toyota part numbers? High Tempreature grease- 00289-12104 Lithium soap base glycol grease - 08887-01206 Thanks.
If you buy a whole 08887-01206 tube of the glycol stuff, you'll be passing it down to the grandkids, unless you run a shop or something. Another way to get that grease, if you don't need so much, is to buy the rebuild rubber kit (one kit does the brakes on both sides), which comes with a little packet of that grease. As an extra added bonus, you also get rebuild rubber pieces!
Or just use silicone grease. Works great and stands colds. Also can be used for many other things. Oops @ChapmanF

I would never stand in the way of anyone making their own choice to substitute something different from the Toyota recommendation. I'd just rather not have people doing that unknowingly because they came to PriusChat looking for that information and landed on a thread that didn't give it. The repair manual excerpt posted above does say where Toyota recommends the glycol grease, and this thread elsewhere mentions how to get some, so no worries here.

That Bob oil guy thread contains this misstatement: "working on a Toyota? If so, you may find that what is in there now is lithium soap grease (AKA "white grease")" The lithium soap based glycol grease that Toyota specifies is quite different from the ubiquitous "lithium grease" that people call "white grease". The most easily-visible difference is that it's a clear red color, not white.
