when do you decide to get a fentanyl vaccine, before deciding to take fentanyl?

If I understand correctly, a lot of people are dying from fentanyl they never decided to take; they decided to take something else, and didn't know their supplier had adulterated it with fentanyl.

A vaccine is a substance that stimulates the body's immune system to protect against...a specific disease. I would suggest vaccine is not the correct word/definition as it applies here.

    On the contrary:

    vaccine noun

    1 ...

2 : a preparation or immunotherapy that is used to stimulate the body's immune response against noninfectious substances, agents, or diseases [emphasis added]

The Ars Technica link describes how fentanyl vaccine is prepared and how it elicits antibody responses. I presume that some people read that.

Will add that the botulism vaccine is against the toxin, not the microbes making it. The vaccine is effective for decades, so botox for wrinkles ain't going to work later in life for those that had the vaccine.

i suppose then, if you're going to begin taking illicit drugs, you should get the vaccine first, in case someone decides to slip in some fentanyl

There are also unintended exposures to people who don't knowingly take any illicit drugs. These are people who have no built-up resistance, thus most susceptible.

New year bring us closer to Grim Reaper’s sickle. Here comparing exit 'strategies'. Not happy thoughts, but quantifying has some merit.

    Main chart is

    causes of death.gif

    From
    https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/deaths.htm

Showing COVID decrease from ~104 (2021) to ~45 (2022). Later years can be see at:
    https://gizmodo.com/covid-19-is-still-killing-a-disturbing-number-of-americans-study-finds-2000705483
    https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2843383?guestAccessKey=c26397f8-3193-499d-a048-281b78b4d8b6&utm_source=For_The_Media&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=ftm_links&utm_content=tfl&utm_term=010526

Calculating from that, COVID was 30 in 2023 and 30 in 2024. It’s not good news that decrease has stalled.

Seasonal Influenza is not on NVSS chart. It varies a lot in US year to year:

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/1124915/flu-deaths-number-us/

Converted to units as above, seasonal Influenza mortality rates ranged from 2 to 16.

Now you know. As they say.

    ==
Most of these exit strategies can be partially controlled. Readers might have New Year’s resolutions concerning exercise and healthy eating and drinking.

COVID and seasonal Influenza offer partial exit-strategy avoidance through vaccinations. Readers might consider these very easy things.

if you have a population of 100, and 50 die of a certain cause, is the same likelihood that 50 more will die the next year?
maybe it depends on the cause

Doesn't seem like what I'd normally expect ... unless you also have a high-enough birth/immigration rate to also have a population of 100 next year despite losing 50 this year.

    yeah, i'm confusing myself.
when i think of flu, or events like covid, i figure the most vulnerable go first, and the next year there are less vulnerable.
but i suppose some less vulnerable move into the more vulnerable category every year
