I have had gmail for years, and was happy with it until I got a new MacBook. You can no longer get the older format, and the new one gets worse with every update imo. Everything you move the curser over expands or brings a popup. The icons are confusing and overly complicated. Any recommendations on a simpler product? I don't use it for anything but reading and writing emails.
Why wouldn't you use the built in MacBook app? Tie in the Google acct. I do that with Yahoo. I like it just fine. I'm new to Mac world though, just like Prius world, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
I also use Thunderbird on a PC. And keep all files on our own local machines (POP3), none stored in webmail serverss in "the cloud" (IMAP). While this causes sync problems between multiple household machines, it doesn't leave contact/address lists out on webservers where hackers most commonly acquire such lists to become imposters to scam people with fake emergency messages in your name.
Exactly... Using email software (like Thunderbird) to run your Gmail accounts is essential... Gmail interface on its own is awful!
Thunderbird has an "archive" folder, would that be local drive, or on your mail server? FWIW, anything I really care about, receipts for example, I "print" to pdf.
Being new to Apple world, I am really impressed by the interconnectivity. Cloud too. Everything is pretty seamless.
I might be confused, but that’s what I did on my old Mac and still do on my I phone. I could be wrong, but I don’t think google allows that anymore. I’m a computers for dummies dropout
Googling: can you use thunderbird on a mac AI response: Yes, you can absolutely use Mozilla Thunderbird on a Mac When Windows built-in email program started getting smarmy (after release 7?), I cast about for a while looking for a decent alternative, and Thunderbird fit the bill. Every once in a blue moon they ask if I'd like to contribute, maybe I should.
You can just open up "Safari"; or whatever internet browser that came installed with that Mac. Then navigate to google.com and sign-in. That will get you back into the google infrastructure your used to. You'll still need to learn how Apple/Mac does things, but a least you can get the important things done. Everyone, including Microsoft and Apple is trying to 'lock you into their infrastructure', which slowly removes choices from your world. That will force future purchases into their infrastructure or you can leave and have to leave behind all your data, unless you've pre-emptively stored copies locally. That's why they make it so easy to dump all your stuff onto the cloud - reach your 5GB limit, start paying to keep your stuff. Another reason why life is getting expensive - subscriptions; death by a thousand cuts..... They add up.... I just applied for a new Costco account. I was always secondary on other family members account. Low and behold; they still had my membership data from 30 years ago. Address and phone numbers tied back to those days. Your data NEVER disappears, it may be outdated; but it's out there......
